I was ashamed to leave so much food on the table after dinner, but the food was not good at all. At the risk of sounding like an ungrateful snob, the lasagna was LITERALLY the worst I’ve ever had in my entire life. I’m not exaggerating. The other food was lacking. For example, the mixed vegetables with the mixed grill included reheated fries that tasted...well, reheated. The bread tasted old. The attached picture is of the curry fish I ordered. Also, my family ordered 5 entrees, and two came out at least 15 minutes before the last entree. What makes it even worse is that this was my sister’s first day in Ethiopia. I have to make it up to her big time after this experience. |The service was not good. The waiter had to serve way too many tables, and he dropped way too many balls. Poor guy. There wasn’t enough silverware or glasses, and the salt shaker—which had no top--was completely empty. We asked him for these things, and he couldn’t remember them all. I just gave up and drank from my Ambo bottle when an additional glass didn’t come. |I wanted to give this restaurant a 2 out of 5, but the only positive thing was the decor. That’s what earned the 1. I couldn’t find anything else positive enough to bump my rating...
Read moreLewi have THREE hotels in Hawassa. this one is Lewi Hotel Piazza and is a 7 storey tower block in the central business district. It is a modern, universal standard hotel with a car park popular with NGO landcruisers. ||After a week in simple mountain huts we thought we would treat ourselves to a bit of luxury and this hotel looked promising (and was priced accordingly). The disappointment grew over a number of trivial things. We understood that the rooms had aircon - which they didn't and although the staff offered to bring a floor standing fan for one of our rooms they didn't have another for mine. The room lighting was complicated to control. In my room it turned-out that several bulbs had simply expired and needed replacing. The fridge was not working so they brought another one. The room safe was locked - so the gave me a code over the phone to unlock it. And then they sent a man with a master key. And there were mosquitos in the bathroom so I waited again for someone to come with some spray - so much for "luxury" I must have wasted about an hour of my time just calling and waiting for the room to be put right.||Eventually I ventured down to the excellent and popular cafe on the ground level and enjoyed...
Read moreOur group of 6 had a very pleasant stay in the hotel. Definitely the best service for a bargain price. Rooms were very clean, though basic. Hot water in the showers. Flip flops supplied too, which are very handy for the showers, because floors can get wet as there were no shower curtains. ||||Sheets and towels were changed daily and BIG soap bars were also changed daily, along with loo paper. ||||The Wi-Fi coverage throughout the hotel was impressive, BUT the hotel was let down by the chronically poor monopoly Ethiopian Telephone network, which was useless for all but the most basic of services and many times couldn't even send a photo to WhatsApp or an email message! ||||The waiters did their best, but they regularly messed up our orders. Even with two national speakers in our group the orders were still repeatedly delivered wrong. More English speaking staff would be of help. Only!one waiter fully understood what a fried egg was.||||The food was always delivered slowly, sometimes painfully so.||||The staff were exceptionally kind and friendly at all times, and really sought to please us with our...
