I am on a quest to find the most luxurious and over the top hotel/resort in the world so of course we had to book Como Laucala after seeing and hearing about it from others that have stayed and the reviews online. We have been traveling to the Maldives quite a bit and have stayed at the top resorts there so the bar was fairly high. Here is a brief overview of our recent 7 night stay at the resort with a group of 13 people in two 2 bedroom villas and one 3 bedroom villa.||Travel-Very easy to get to and the flights lined up perfectly for most people coming from the Western US (Fiji Air (newer planes) 11:55pm overnight flight from LAX or SFO that lands about 6am local time +1 day) and allowing to maximize your day upon arrival and departure (9:30pm overnight flight from Nadi to LAX or SFO which arrives around noon -1 day). The transfer to the private plane taking you from Nadi to the resort was seamless and quick. The planes are newer King Air 350's so they are quiet, smooth and luxurious.||Arrival-You almost feel as though you are arriving to Jurasic Park when you drive to your villa. This is very different than most resorts because you are on a private island that is more than 4 miles square and they have it impeccably manicured no matter where you look. The villas are spread out where you need golf carts to get to everywhere. ||Accommodation-The villas we stayed in were very nice. They were on so much land that you couldn't see or hear any of the neighbors (there are only 25 total villas on this entire island so that is the point). Our villa was on a sandy beach was composed of 2 main master suites that were very similar (~1,250 SF indoor and outdoor), a main living area with a dining table, couch, television and bar, large private pool and then a back bedroom that is suitable for 2 kids or younger adults (not a couple).||Food and Beverage-We have stayed at some very nice all inclusive resorts/accommodations with a similar concept to this (safari's, luxury villas, yachts, luxury resorts, ect) so we have some experience here. Laucala has a great quality and choice of wines (primarily from Australia/New Zealand due to the location) and beer. The liquor choices were reasonable although there were not super high end top shelf brands unless you wanted to pay extra (nobody in our group really was that picky about it so it was completely fine). The F&B team set up all of our dinners like main events. They decorated each venue like a wedding/rehearsal dinner. They started about 2pm with setting up for 7:30pm dinners which included live music, kava ceremonies, bonfires, a private bar and BBQ. Because we were a larger group, most of our dinners were family style which I would probably not do next time so we could avoid the food waste and accommodate some personal preferences. ||Schedule/Flexibility-There is none and that is the great part in my opinion. Nothing had to be scheduled more than maybe an hour or so in advance. Of course, the meal locations needed time to be prepped but overall, when we thought of something to do, we simply sent a Whatsapp message to our concierge and then went 30 mins to an hour later. If you were alone, they would just assign (or you could request) a staff member to go with you or play with you (golf/tennis). ||Experience-This is where the resort absolutely kills it. We have a very active group that always is on the move and wanting to engage in activities while on vacation. The resort staff is highly encouraging in getting everyone to take advantage of as much of what they offer as possible which is an odd thing to do at an all inclusive resort but they feel as though the more experiences people have, the better the trip/memories and that they will come back. I can't list what we did because it will take pages to write. Some highlights were tennis with the pro, golf on the championship course with a tensome and 2 local golf pros with a snack and beverage cart following us the entire time, jet ski the island tour, soccer match with the staff and a daily volleyball match with and against the staff. There is NOTHING like this anywhere. ||Spa-I personally didn't take any treatments but everyone that did (all 12 others) said it was an incredible experience and the overall amenities were great including a nice steam room.||Common Amenities/Restaurants-There is a lot of choice here. The Plantation House is the main restaurant and it is impeccable. There is a Seagrass Restaurant at the far end of the property that does primarily Thai/Asian and Tepanyaki that has incredible views and vista from the hillside. There is a beach bar/restaurant for day time which was always great. Then they do a bunch of private dining in different destinations across the property. They also have a traditional ceremony one night per week. Of course they have all the other expected amenities like a gym, spa, library, gift shop, dive shop, gardens, farm and the one of the largest free flowing pools in the Southern Hemisphere. ||Staff-Every department was on point the entire time. The Fijian personality and attitude is so infectious. There is no way you could have a bad day, laugh or get upset at any mistake (yes....there were a few but nothing major or nothing that you wouldn't see at any resort) that was made. The Fijians make you feel like family and hopefully our group did the same for them. The staff is what really makes this resort and for that fact, the Fijian islands stand out from other similar destinations like the Seychelles, Tahiti and Hawaii.||Management/Leadership-Very well run and the GM is around and available anytime IF you need him. He has spent his entire career in the luxury private island/hospitality industry and definitely knows how to interact with the guests and staff.||Weather-The weather during July (winter for Fiji) was absolutely perfect. Highs of 81-82 and lows of 70 with very low humidity. We really had no rain other than a slight drizzle one day which didn't stop us from anything we were doing. They say the summers are similar with just a little higher temp/humidity and slightly more rain. ||Overall-I can only compare this to the movie Fantasy Island where when you arrive, you are treated not like a hotel guest but like an owner and royalty. Almost anything, any place, any time will be provided for you. If you don't see it, then ask. Sometimes you just had to pinch yourself to really know if you were dreaming or if this was real.||Rating-9.5 our of 10.......and yes......we will be back VERY soon if they...

Set amidst the turquoise waters of the Fijian archipelago, COMO Laucala Island is more than a destination – it is a private world where every detail is designed to ensure complete privacy, attentive service, and an atmosphere that makes you feel truly at home.
Arrival aboard the resort’s own aircraft, followed by a warm and flawless welcome, marks the beginning of a stay that lingers in the heart. Our One Bedroom Plantation Residence opens directly onto an untouched stretch of beach, offering 2,000 square metres of exclusive space, an infinity pool, serene lounging areas, and sunsets that could have been painted. Interiors blend natural materials with elegant lines, perfectly harmonised with the surrounding landscape.
Service reaches its highest expression thanks to people like our Tau, Mere, whose kindness, warmth, and genuine care transformed our stay into an intimate and unforgettable experience. With grace and heartfelt attention, she anticipated our every need, making us feel not only welcome, but part of the Laucala family.
Equally memorable was the impeccable attention to my food allergies: I never once had to worry, knowing that every dish was safe and personally tailored to my needs. I was able to enjoy each dining experience across the resort’s five restaurants, as well as the themed evenings – from the Fijian to the Indian dinner – where the dishes, while customised for me, retained their full authenticity and character.
A special thanks goes to Chef Mattia, who masterfully leads the main kitchen, and to the chef of the Asian restaurant – both delivering creations that not only respected dietary requirements but also delighted with their balance, creativity, and flavour. The culinary standard consistently matched, and on more than one occasion surpassed, the dining experiences we cherish in Italy, all while preserving the genuine essence of the ingredients.
The island’s range of activities is equally compelling: diving and snorkelling in pristine coral reefs, sailing, paddleboarding, golf on a David McLay Kidd-designed course, horseback rides along the shore, and rejuvenating COMO Shambhala treatments. Every experience is orchestrated with the utmost care, turning each day into a treasured memory.
