Bula, Bula, Bula!

This place truly is a safe landing, just as its name suggests. The warmth with which you are welcomed and cared for here is something you don’t find everywhere. The water is beautifully clear and turquoise, and you can watch the sunset from elevated platforms or relax in a hammock in the shade. We felt completely well here because of the peaceful location, even though new guests arrive regularly. There’s so much to explore: snorkeling at the coral reefs, with a bit of luck spotting reef sharks, eagle rays, or squids. At low tide, you can walk around the island along the beach or hike the hilly landscape. Activities like snorkeling, fishing, and canoeing are available. It’s best to bring your own snorkeling gear, as you can’t buy any here. But it‘s possible to rent some. If you’re interested in the local culture, you can chat with the locals, the owners, the staff, or villagers and you can learn traditional skills: harvesting coconuts, weaving, local herbal knowledge, kava ceremonies, Fijian language lessons, or visiting the village and its chief together with the owners (bring some kava as a gift!).

We spent a month here to relax and celebrate our honeymoon. It’s the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the simple things like collecting seashells.

Meal planning is flexible: you sign up each day for 1, 2, or 3 meals. Food allergies are taken seriously. We requested gluten-free and vegan meals, which worked perfectly. If you have specific needs, it’s best to explain them clearly in advance. The cooks really do their best and prepare delicious meals. Many ingredients are homegrown. Everyone eats together at a shared table. Meals usually consist of rice, cassava, vegetables, meat or fish, sometimes with salad or fruit like papaya or banana. Breakfast often includes sweet pastries, pancakes, jam, pineapple, and sometimes beans. They offer instant coffee. In the nearby village of Nabula, there’s a small yellow teahouse with lime juice, tea, and cake.

At night, if the sky is clear, you can see the moon and the Milky Way – absolutely magical. If you’re someone who enjoys a simple life, you don’t need much else to feel happy. The feeling here is truly priceless. So if you’re looking for luxury, this may not be the right place. Water, electricity, and signal aren’t always available – but that’s to be expected on a remote island in the ocean. There’s a opportunity to visit a small shop on another island which you can reach by boat. This place is about simple living, authentic experiences, and connection with nature, with others, and perhaps even with yourself.

There are three lovely dogs and a one-eyed cat who all enjoy being petted (and occasionally fed). The people, the animals, and the natural surroundings have truly touched our hearts. It already feels like home, and it’s hard to leave. The kindness here is real and never fake. You meet real characters, each unique. That‘s refreshing and inspiring.

The owner is amazing and has a heart of gold. Everyone else involved does a great job and puts in so much effort. Please keep being exactly who you are. You truly deserve support!

Vinaka for everything lovely people. We wish you all the best! We hope this won’t be our last visit or maybe we’ll meet again somewhere else in the world. See...

It's a wonderful place with a blue ocean and beautiful view to the beach but it's just crazy how much maintenance this place needs. It's normal that your shower head is flying away while you're using a shower or its just missing, bathroom floor and shower is really dirty and in case you need a power to charge your devices it might or might not be available only till midnight. (Advertised all night so you can run your fan all-night and get a good sleep). Also electricity system is not just crazy but there is a real risk that someone is getting hurt at some point or it's cooking everyones chargers. Food is the worst I was eating around there and just be prepared because there is NOTHING to sell on the island not even a water or snacks. Shop ride cost 20 or 25$ to go to the Nanuya island but the only shop around does have really limited stock. Be prepared. If you're vegan or vegetarian- be really well prepared as you gonna eat frozen veggies -same every day. Also window curtains-blinds-whatever it was is falling apart and you might not be able to close windows if its raining and it's raining straight to your bed-please fix them all. They are working on their license to open the bar but just be aware there is nothing there -its not a eco village-accomondation aussi style but a real one.. reminds me a proper outback camping trip. There is a cool village to explore on the island, also you can do a decent hiking - track starts from end of the beach (towards the cafe where u can buy slice of cake and a tea) and it goes long way towards the mountains...around 3 h return (track also goes to blue lagoon and to the end of island I heard). They are offering few trips out to the caves and reef snorkeling. Bungalow location was one of the best and if you will arrive with everything you need you...

A Long and Honest Review

We spent 6 days at Safe Landing with our 2-year-old, and we loved it. Everyone was amazing with our baby—playing with her and looking after her. Being family-owned, there were lots of kids for her to play with, which was really nice.

The island is stunning, with the best beach spot in the area, and it was exactly as described. Seeing our daughter so immersed in the experience made the trip unforgettable. The overall vibe was truly Fijian, and we loved embracing their way of life. Yes, sometimes dinner was late, and tour information was minimal, but it’s part of the experience. Adapting to their culture made the trip unique and special.

While food isn’t compulsory, there aren’t other dining options on the island other than the Tea House next door. Personally, as a picky eater, I found some meals challenging, but the fish dishes were great.

After 6 nights, we left a day early as we were craving a proper shower and air conditioning. Rooms aren’t cleaned during your stay, so I ended up mopping ours a few times, which was fine, but I wish the bathrooms were cleaned during long stays. Sill, everything worked as expected—showers were warm despite low pressure, and the simplicity added to the charm.

Snorkeling at the Blue Lagoon and reef-hopping was great, and my partner loved diving with the Blue Lagoon Resort, which Safe Landing can arrange with a $20 boat trip. Meals with other guests were also a highlight, allowing us to meet amazing people and creating a sense of community.

It’s not a resort, and you shouldn’t expect luxury, but for a genuine, authentic experience, I highly recommend it. We’ll never forget...

We stayed here two nights. I wish we had known how wonderful it was and would have planned for longer. Before we booked the marketing manager explained this was not a resort. Having stayed at eco-lodges before I knew what we were booking and couldn’t have asked for more. Our cottage was right on the beach. Hammocks out front and water a few feet further. The pine trees made for great shade while spending time in the hammock. The rooms are small with thin mattresses on wooden frames and pretty comfortable. We had a small sink area in the room and an attached shower and toilet. It was very warm so the “cold water” shower wasn’t a problem. My mom had the adjoining room and she didn’t mind the cold water either, something that almost never flies with her. They run on a generator so electricity is only available in the evening. We brought battery packs and charged everything at night. All the activities were reasonably priced and well worth the time. Definitely check out the reef hopping if you are an avid snorkeler. I suggest bringing your own snorkel equipment as their selection is limited. The food was excellent. Very large portions and extremely tasty. They served us individual plates but in a family style setting, stringing the tables together so fellow guests could interact. They ran out of beer frequently but usually got another shipment the following day. I don’t think they have much room for storage of cold beverages. Tevita and his family are welcoming and accommodating. Definitely stay here.
