Having traveled to over 20 countries and staying at memorable places, nothing in our years of travel can begin to compare to the experience we had at Wakaya. Our bungalow on the beach matched every picture in a dream travel guide. It was clean, tasteful and felt exotic. The furniture looked like it hadn't ever been sat on. The bed was super comfortable, and from through the canopy bed you could see the beach and the ocean. The beach had beautiful sand and crystal clear water. ||The open air dining room was the ultimate Fiji experience. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were perfection. Every meal was a gourmet experience with a Fiji flare. We had already tried a famous Fiji barbecue before arriving at the resort, and we thought we wouldn't order it again (it was a little dry), but when we arrived at Wakaya, we were told that their food was like no other. Let me just say, it was so much better. We had the barbecue for our anniversary dinner. On that evening, they had planned on their own to set a table on the beach with beautiful lanterns hanging in the trees, tiki torches lining the beach, and a huge bonfire just for us. They baked us a special anniversary cake and several came out to sing a couple songs for us. The evening lasted for hours and we will never forget it...maybe the finest evening of our lives||The staff want to make you feel like you're there on a beautiful island all by yourself, so they really try to respect privacy. But if you let them know that you would like to engage them, they are wonderful and interesting conversationalists...all while continuing to respect your privacy. We felt like we were treated like royalty.||One day they set up a beautiful lunch on a private beach. They brought out the beautiful drinks and fantastic food and the table setting was laid out under a gazebo. They set up an outdoor covered lounge area with a large cushion to sit on and tons of pillows. Two hammocks were ready for us and someone stood off a ways to make sure that if we wanted snorkels or paddle boards or kayaks, they were available upon our request. The coral reef there was beautiful and there were lots of sea turtles in that area.||One day we took them up on the offer to take the boat out to one of the reefs. I have had the opportunity to snorkel in the Red Sea on the Sinai Peninsula. I never thought I would see water that clear and a reef as beautiful as that, but Wakaya offered something to match it.||On Sunday morning we went to the church to join their church service. The pastor was gracious, the people were happy and kind, and the children were a joy to be with. What a beautiful service! ||I've been many places, and without a doubt, Wakaya is the best and most beautiful place my wife and I have ever stayed. We can't stop thinking about how we can get back there and how soon we can make it happen. To everyone who works there and might read this, we think of you all often. Thank you so much for being the wonderful people you are and how much you made us...
Read moreMy husband and I celebrated our 25th Wedding anniversary at the Wakaya Club. It was Heaven on Earth and hands down, the best vacation we ever have been on. As we arrived early on the morning, we were met with mimosas in hand and given a tour of our Bule and the rest of the island’s amenities. They have a 9 hole golf course, a very nice gym, incredible gourmet food, a spa, a small pool, scuba lessons, snorkeling right in front of your bule... and a hammock and chairs right in front of the beach. The Fijian staff are so friendly and kind. They wait on you hand and foot. Had I known that they wash your clothes in the hamper every day and return them folded by afternoon, I would have packed less. A hiking tour and beaches tour were available, which we took advantage of. Our bule had a front and secluded back porch and yard, a outside grotto shower, and beautiful bedroom and living space with a fridge. Homemade ginger oatmeal cookies we’re waiting in the fridge for us. We also were treated to a private dinner for our anniversary celebration and were serenaded at our table by the beach. They made a cake for us and gave us a beautiful hand carved turtle bowl as a gift to remember our special time there. When we went to the private beach for a day, we were sent with walkie talkies and a cooler filled with gourmet foods and champagne. We went in July, which is their winter, which is a perfect time to go. The weather...
