During our stay, her dedication to guest satisfaction stood out, as she ensured every detail of our trip was perfect.

They consistently went out of their way to make anything possible. Their care and pride in running the resort made the experience truly special.
The cultural connection was also a highlight, as the staff taught us Fijian words and immersed us in their warm and welcoming culture.
We were especially impressed that most of the team came from the local village on the island, with many native Fijians holding leadership roles. It made a real difference in creating an authentic and meaningful experience.

Breakfast offered a variety of options, all made to order by the talented chef. We were especially impressed by the use of fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, and fish, which is no small feat given the remote location.

The snorkeling tour took us to the most vibrant coral reefs weโve ever seen in Fiji, and the relaxing massage was the perfect way to unwind.

The adults-only policy and intimate capacity of just 36 guests ensure a serene and exclusive experience. The care and pride the team puts into maintaining the resort were evident in every detail, from the spotless facilities to the thoughtful guest interactions.
๐ ๐จ๐ป๐ถ๐พ๐๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ ๐ฐ๐น๐๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐๐ฎ๐: We had the privilege of staying at Waya Island Resort before its grand opening in February. With a maximum of only six guests, including us, we essentially had the entire hotel to ourselves. This made the experience incredibly exclusive, intimate, and peacefulโa rare treat that we thoroughly enjoyed.
๐ ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐๐ต๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ: The team went above and beyond to make my birthday unforgettable. ย ย ย Read moreI've been to Fiji many times and have stayed at some beautiful resorts but Waya Island is one of my all-time favourite places. I don't generally revisit the same place twice but I can't imagine not returning to this idyllic sanctuary.
Everyone talks about the Fijians as the reason why Fiji is so special. I couldn't agree more but the Fijians at Waya are a very special group of deeply bonded and connected people so that when they say "welcome home" when they show you your bure, it hits home with such a genuine and authentic resonance that you know this place is uniquely special... I would go so far as to say there is something mystical about Waya Island Resort.
In terms of the more tangible experiences - the snorkelling immediately off the beach is remarkable. The health and vibrance of the reef is spectacular and so unusual to see, especially right off a beach. Beautiful and colourful coral heads teeming with so many different kinds of fish coupled with crystal clear water make you feel like you're swimming in an aquarium. We explored with paddleboards, kayaks and snorkels/ fins / masks and all of the equipment is exceptional (and they match you with a good set or mask / snorkel / fins and reef shoes as soon as you arrive and let you keep them in your bure until you leave - just like family would).
The food is exceptional. They have recruited top-notch chefs and even have a dedicated pastry chef on board - at breakfast, you choose your lunch and at lunch, you choose dinner. As a foodie, it sometimes felt that the activities were merely a pause between eating but goodness, it was heaven. If you go, definitely try to include a Friday night for your stay as Fridays are Fijian night and they are a real treat.
Finally, the bures .... they are even more beautiful then the photos suggest. I had a beachfront bure - complete with my own hammock, picnic table and sunloungers out front - and that is where I found myself on most afternoons, especially when the late afternoon sun had moved past the pool area.
John and Laura, the managers, are wonderful and it is so clear they have a deep and kindred connection with the Fijians. They are all family and this gives Waya a huge point of difference.
Recommendations:
Nice resort but just poor value for the price; we stayed at broadly similar resorts in Fiji as part of the same holiday (honeymoon) for half the cost. Particularly if it's a windy day, there's not much you can do so you're spending a lot of money to sit by a small pool and eat average food.
Pros: Watersports equipment free to use, some friendly, helpful staff, good rooms, a beautiful island and a great spa. Several fun activities during the day, some included in the price. Good breakfast.
Cons: Very limited food options or variety for lunch and dinner most days (hopefully you really like pizza!), options especially poor for vegetarians, which is somewhat expected in Fiji, but bad for the price you pay. The reef is beautiful but quite far from the beach compared to other resorts we stayed in, and they expect you to swim across the boat path to get out. Also not allowed in the sea after 5pm even if it's still sunny and perfect conditions. Almost no evening activities/entertainment on most evenings and a very small playlist in the restaurant so some may get bored/annoyed! Most day activities rushed and...
