Location: Overall, it is easy to find even though we arrived by public transportation. There are plenty of Majamaja signs around, and the reference photo in the e-handbook is helpful as well. Transportation: Public transportation is my choice and it worked pretty well. If you are visiting Finland and this is your first stop, familiarize yourself with HSL first. View: Perfect sea view from both inside and the balcony. Facilities: You have everything you need here: kitchen tools, tableware, bedding, blankets, etc. All are of high quality. And, of course, coffee is provided! I mean, this must be somehow by law. Every BnB I’ve stayed at here has provided coffee, which is very impressive and I love it. Dog-friendly: Yes, and there is a reasonable extra fee. We brought our own blanket to cover the sofa seating cushion, but dog hairs are inevitable. We tried our best to practice the LOW-FOOTPRINT SPIRIT and I hope it helps the custodial team a bit. Anyway, if you're traveling with your dog, it’s always good to check in advance as the policy may change. Use WhatsApp—they respond quicker. Small problem: Our first night was disturbed by periodic noises, possibly from the power system or water filter system. Additionally, due to the heavy wind, the small fan at the end of the ventilation pipe outside sounded like a helicopter all night long. Luckily, the weather improved the next day, and the engine noise disappeared somehow.
Tips: a) Plan your drinking water and snacks accordingly. Food delivery is possible but with limited options. I tried VENE Bar & Bistro, which was pretty good and didn’t take long to deliver. Familiarize yourself with the Wolt app if you don’t use it in your country. b) It’s mid-June in Helsinki, so it’s pretty warm. However, the cottage is by the sea so bring appropriate clothes if you plan to stay on the balcony longer. c) Bring some napkins. I didn’t find any here this time, but I think napkins are quite essential. Just my opinion.
Summary: Highly recommend. A wonderful place to spend a day or two. Impressive design and lovely spirit. I hope the Majamaja concept can be introduced to more places worldwide and look forward to seeing adaptations or upgrades on other Majamaja cottage in other countries...
Read moreI was very much looking forward to my stay here however I did not stay the night/complete my stay. I am a big fan of sustainable design and was intrigued by the concept however I recognize that I myself am not outdoorsy and like a little more comfortability in my stays especially when traveling solo. With that said take everything below with a grain of salt.
I am in Europe for a week & while I packed light it was a trek to get my carry-on suitcase, little travel bag and few groceries to the cabin. When I arrived it was very hot inside and while that it is to be expected I couldn’t figure out how to get the circulation of the air to happen per the instructions. There were quite a few bugs hanging out inside as well as outside the main entry(I know it’s the outdoors) but trying to swat little flies away while I enter in the code was not ideal. The cabin is off grid - not as in can’t get internet but in the way it operates (ie. toilet operates very differently). I pictured the main sleep area being open to below, loft style but it was more enclosed adding to uncomfortableness from lack of circulation. Cabins are pretty close to each other - if you want seclusion from other cabins I’d suggest the black cabin.
Few recommendations for property: add screens to doors so that doors can remain open adding to air circulation and keeping bugs out. Maybe prior to stay ensure circulation is happening? A little more information on the website would be helpful in understanding what you are booking.
Pros: beautiful views, truly stunning. I image a swim would be lovely should it be...
Read morethis is a very special place and I am so very grateful to have found it. I’ve spent my last week there in solitude and I had the most wonderful days. There aren’t many places like this. It is so close to the city and yet you are in a completely different space. Their unique concept of a self sufficient house allows it to be built so close to the water, that you become part of it. The stones, the wind the water. The design is just beautiful, elegant and simple and the view is everything. I felt comfortable, beautiful and safe being in this house. The service has been very attentive and kind. Since I stayed for more days, the toilet was cleaned regularly and they provided help, tips and everything I needed.
The kitchen is simple, but it had all I needed to cook. The city is super close and I never felt isolated. You can even order via Wolt if you’re too lazy to cook or forgot to buy groceries.
Nearby is a very sweet sauna that provides sauna and breakfast and the surrounding nature is magical.
I strongly recommend, turning off your phone and tuning into the energy of this place. This is a unique place, it asks you to be conscious about what you consume, become still and invites you into a different pace of time, beyond the busyness of our daily lives.
Thank you! I will come back most...
