In short, rude and threatening staff. Willfully in breach of every single GDPR policy/law. With a flipper and 5-10min you could easily cause enough GDPR related fines to down the entire company and then some.
I should note early that while I had a reservation I've not stayed. When they refused to help and started getting hostile. I took them up on their constant taunts of "if you don't want to do as we say just walk away we don't care". Ended up leaving and finding another hotel.
Because their reception is staffed but you're still required to use a dodgy app on an Android tablet nearby to fill in all your personal information and then some. There's nothing preventing you from exiting the app or doing whatever you want.
As they say, some of the information they're asking for is indeed required by local law. But the standard is to request a paper form be filled in. And typically either your passport or private home adress - not both.
They also gleefully refuse to help or answer any questions. Threatened to throw me out and call the police when I asked them to direct me to their policies on how they handle my personal data and for how long.
If you don't care about any of that I still wouldn't recommend it as the "free parking" is just that the people living in houses beside the hotel park along the street and there's nothing stopping you from doing the same. Except it's almost always 95% ful already.
Interior is brown tiles and white walls. Some called it "cozy" but it's honestly just old and ugly. Everything gives of the impression of sketchy motel.
Book literally anything else - the staff don't care about you or your privacy. They also can't even be bothered to show the slightest hint of courtesy...
Read moreIf I could give a zero I would. Staff was the most unfriendly and rude I've ever come across. ||||In short: They disregard and breach every single GDPR law and don't care at all. Angry and accusatory, no care for their guests wellbeing or comfort. Told me I could either do as they wanted or leave.||||||||Some other reviews have called the hotel "cozy" but it's more ugly and old. Just more what I'd imagine when someone says "Sketchy motel" than anything. Worth mentioning is also that there's no free parking, at least provided by the hotel.||||The "free parking" they're talking about are the parking spaces along the road and theres absolutely no guarantee you'll find a available one.||||||||Threatened to call the police on me when I asked if I could be directed to where their ToS/GDPR policies could be found because the ones on their website are only concerning their membership program.||||They had a really sketchy app on a Android tablet where they wanted me to fill in ALL my personal information. This is what the title is referring to. It's seriously unsecure enough that the title isn't hyperbole. ||||It's not in kiosk mode, you could easily tab out from the application and change it to something else. And of course run on WIFI without any proper encryption. Those who know they know.||||When asked why they needed all this they saids it's to comply with Finish law, which is partly correct. Any hotel in Finland will ask for your private home adress. But they typically have clear guidelines on how they store this information and how long. They will also ask for some way to contact you.||||However this information is only stored for a limited amount of time and subject...
Read moreThis hotel is in the quiet neighbourhood of Käpylä, famed for its delightful wooden houses and green living space, which is in contrast to much of the rest of Helsinki’s concrete city dwellings. The area is lacking in eateries - Fins eat early and kitchens are shut by 8-9pm, except in centre - but even so the choice is limited. |The hotel is walkable from Käpylä/Kottby station. Train to and from airport easy and costs under €5/person. |Hotel is clean, which is a big tick. Beyond that, it’s not really great in any way. The lobby is dull and generally unwelcoming. The rooms are very basic, power sockets in awkward places. Some pictures on the walls/a headboard/anything would break up the cell-like styling (underfloor heating in bathroom was welcome). The breakfast was fine. The pool and sauna are only available to residents during breakfast hours...|The restaurant was closed in the evenings. There is a small bar. |There’s an Alepa (grocery chain) store across the road, with a cash point. |The tram stop is right next to the hotel, with a ticket machine. Can’t buy tickets on the tram. Can pay on the bus. Both cost a couple of Euros per trip. |We were advised that the tram doesn’t go the way we needed (towards centre). There is a bus, but timing-wise it was taxis only for us — and taxis are expensive in Helsinki. |Hotels are expensive in Helsinki also, and this is a compromise, but it’s a compromise...
