We were so disappointed with this hotel. On my first two trips to beautiful Sotkamo, when I traveled alone and stayed with friends, I noted this hotel, and especially noted its ideal location next to the lake and an easy walk to the commercial center of Sotkamo. So when, on my third trip when I traveled with my family and my friend's place was too small to accommodante all of us, it was a no-brainer for me to reserve at this hotel. ||||What a big mistake. This hotel has only two things to recommend it: its location and the fact that it is very quiet. Those are the only positive points about this hotel. ||||Here are the negative points that particularly stand out: (1) the staff barely acknowledge your presence in the hotel, let alone provide any kind of normal services that you would take for granted in even the least expensive hotels (that's without mentioning their poor English - surprisingly poor even for this relatively remote part of Finland), (2) breakfast is horrible. Truly horrible. Exceptionally little choice, what there is tastes as bad as it looks, and you have to serve and service yourself entirely, including setting your table in its entirety and clearing it, (3) the rooms are very small and cramped (at least ours were), (4) the rooms and the hallways are exceptionally poorly lit, (5) when the poor lighting is combined with the hotel's Soviet-style design (architecture) and decoration (or lack thereof), it makes for a very gloomy and depressing atmosphere, in stark contrast to the beauty of Sotkamo that lies just outside the hotel's walls, and (6) our rooms were never cleaned or otherwise serviced at all during our entire three-night stay - not once.||||We had dinner at the hotel the night of our arrival. We hadn't planned to do so and hadn't especially wanted to, but we arrived in Sotkamo only at 8:30 pm, which was too late to eat in any nearby restaurants as they either had already closed for the evening, or were in the process of closing. I was grateful that we could still eat at the hotel. And surprised that the food wasn't terrible (it was far less disappointing than the hotel's breakfast that we discovered the following morning). That being said, the menu offered exceptionally little choice (just three items listed, and one of those was not available, so in reality we were offered just two options - either a beef dish or pork dish), and service was nonexistent - we ordered at the hotel's reception desk, and once our food arrived, we never saw a staff member again - to offer dessert, more drinks, just to see if we were ok.....||||We paid far far more to stay here than our stay was worth. I feel that we paid luxury hotel prices for less than the comfort and services of a hostel. Given how little this hotel provides to its guests (little more than a bed and four walls), I can't figure out where all the money goes. I also can't figure out how the hotel can continue to operate in this appalling manner. It is true that it has very little competition in Sotkamo itself, but it has substantial competition in nearby Vuoakatti. This hotel needs a complete renovation of its interior, and a complete transformation of the attitude and approach towards guests by its staff.||||I will certainly travel to Sotkamo again. And probably also again after that. I definitely will not stay again at this hotel. I'll stay pretty much anywhere, in Sotkamo or in Vuokatti, except this hotel. And my family and I will always remember this hotel and laugh at it as "that terrible place where we stayed...
Read moreWe stayed one night at the beginning on June. It was quite a cold and rainy evening so we decided to book a hotel instead of tenting. Waste of money! The room air was as cold and wet as outside. Even the towels didn't dry out in the room during the night. When we went for breakfast it was like a ghost hotel, no lights at all. When we got home I wrote an email telling about the cold and wet room temperature and asked if it would be possible to have some refund. It took weeks (and two reminders) before they even bothered to answer me and when they finally answered they just wrote "The matter has been dealt with and it has been concluded that no action are taken." I understand that nobody is very keen on giving refunds but also the customer service at this point was really low. They could at least have apologised for the bad experience. I really don't recommend this...

hotelli näytti jo ulkoapäin rapistuneelta ja tie on täynnä routineita kuoppia ja epätasaisuuksia. olin ottanut respaan yhteyttä sähköpostilla viikkoa aikaisemmin mutta tähän ei oltu vastattu. soitin perään jolloin sain viestin takaisin ja tarjouksen, joka ei ollut mitenkään edullinen vaikka tarkoitus oli olla siellä kuukausi hotellisesongin ulkopuolella.
minun piti olla töiden puolesta sotkamossa kuukausi, mutta otin aluksi huoneen viikoksi kun näin millainen paikka oli kyseessä. tämä hotelli oli ainoa sijainniltaan hyvä, joten olin päätynyt siihen, enkä ollut tätä ennen kokenut tarvetta katsoa toista hotellia ja nyt olin matkatavaroiden kanssa jo pihalla. nettisivulla on mainittu 10-15% alennus per yö mikäli niitä on yli 3-5. tätä respa ei ottanut automaattisesti huomioon vaan päädyin maksamaan koko viikosta täyden hinnan ilman mitään luvattuja alennuksia. koin tämän erittäin huonoksi asiakaspalveluksi ja tuli vedätetty olo heti ensivaikutelmana. maksoin koko viikon ennen kun näin huoneen. olin liian optimistinen ja kohtelias.
huone oli tismalleen samanlainen kuin se oli 40 vuotta sitten, paitsi että vessan kattopaneelit oli uusittu muuhun huoneeseen sopimattoman värisellä laminaattilevyllä. aukaisin ikkunan heti huoneeseen saavuttuani ja pidin sen auki viikon putkeen, ikkunasta ei nähnyt läpi sillä ikkunalasit olivat kosteudesta sameat. pyyhkeet olivat puhtaat, toisessa tyynyliinassa oli jotain kuivunutta ruokaa, joten päädyin nukkumaan puhtaammassa sängyssä joka oli mahdollisimman lähellä ikkunaa. sängyt olivat kovat ja muhkuraiset ja tyynyt pienet. käytin pyyhettä aluslakana, peiton päällä ja tyynyn päällä. siivooja oli kerran tulossa huoneeseen vaikka olin laittanut 'älkää häiritkö' lätkän oveen. silloin hän pahoitteli ja sanoin luulleensa kortin olleen eri, vaikka huonepalvelukortit ovat eri väriset keskenään.
lämpimät ruoat aamiaisella olivat epämääräisiä eikä missään lukenut mitä ne sisälsivät. en uskaltanut syödä niitä ruokamyrkytyksen pelossa. sillä sama lämmin ruoka oli aamiaispöydässä koko sen viikon jonka jouduin siellä viettämään. päädyin tämän viikon jälkeen menemään aateliin loppuajaksi. hintakin oli siellä melkein sama ja sain heiltä hyvän tarjouksen.
koko touhusta tuli mieleen rocky horror show. toivon vain että hotellin maan vuokra loppuessa ensi vuonna hotelli saatetaan viimeiseen lepoonsa, ja vedetään tasaiseksi.
