Hotelli Kainuu Oy — Hotel in Kehys-Kainuu sub-region

Don't really know the history of the hotel or when it was built, but I got the eerie feeling of revisiting the seventies. The hotel is basic, with spacious enough rooms, but the decor is just dated. The location is fine. ||Probably this is a cultural relic of the area, offering party-time for locals in the evenings and accommodation for visitors. Breakfast was fine, but the breakfast room could do with a major renovation and update. It is just a dirty night club in daylight, and that is not so wonderful to look at or smell in the morning when you would like to enjoy your breakfast.||The room was ok, shower was fine, but no AC. There was a fan you could turn on, however. We needed a place to sleep over, and this took care of it, but it was no luxurious sleep nor wonderful visit. ||The town itself is quite small, but interesting enough. We were looking for a restaurant to have a meal, and the hotel had one, but we did not feel like trying it. Viel Auswahl hat man in Kuhmo ja nicht, wenn man in der Stadt selbst wohnen will. Wenn man das Kammermusikfestival besucht, ist das Hotel Kainuu sicher perfekt gelegen: man erreicht alle Veranstaltungsorte in wenigen Minuten zu Fuss. Das Haus hat aber schon bessere Zeiten gesehen, wovon die klassisch moderne, elegante Architektur des Gebäudes durchaus zeugt. Allerdings wurden im Laufe der Zeit unzählige verunstaltenden Änderungen und Pseudomodernisierungen vorgenommen, so dass von der "nordischen Klarheit" nicht mehr viel übrig ist. Die Zimmer sind immerhin noch halbwegs akzeptabel, teilweise modernisiert und vor allem sehr geräumig. Im Badezimmer eine alte finnische Unart: keine Duschwanne. Man setzt also gezwungenermassen den ganzen Raum unter Wasser beim Duschen. Der Frühstücksraum ist ganz eklig, ungepflegt, schmutzige Tische, fürchterliches Mobiliar, fleckige Teppiche. So nicht - Sowjetstil! Immerhin war das Speisensortiment beim Frühstück halbwegs in Ordnung.||||Das Personal durchaus korrekt, etwas mehr Freundlichkeit hätte auch nicht geschadet. Aber eine gewisse Teilnahmslosigkeit und fehlende Herzlichkeit ist in Finnland im Tourismus leider die Regel und keine Spezialität dieses Hauses.||||Dem Kammermusikfestival würde es gut anstehen, die Qualität des Beherberungsangebotes in Kuhmo etwas in den Fokus zu rücken - zumal man mehr ausländische Gäste...

The hotel is ok, midpriced place to stay. Interior is from 80's, rooms are spacious with airconditioning. The breakfast is average, but if you want to stay in the centre, this is your only option.
