This farm is over 470 years old. The first householder built his house here in 1547. The family Töyrylä lived here in the 18th century. They made cheese and exported it to Germany. The great great grandfather of the Finnish national composer Jean Sibelius was born here in 1721. The old house was demolished and the new Töyrylä Manor was built in 1879. However, they didn't tell it to the taxman before 1904. So officially the manor was established in 1904. ||Doors, floor planks and windows are still original but the manor has been restored carefully. However, the baroque-style gazebo in the lovely garden is new.||Nowadays Töyrylä Manor (Töyrylän kartano in Finnish) is a boutique hotel. It is situated in the middle of nowhere in Artjärvi (address Värjärintie 2), Orimattila. Actually it is located almost in the middle point of the triangle which connects Porvoo, Lahti and Kouvola. The distance from Helsinki Central Railway Station is 100 kilometers.||This manor is extremely unique, one of the most interesting houses I have ever visited. Antique furniture is awesome. This manor serves both as a luxurious feast location (family gatherings, weddings, christening ceremonies, birthday parties, memory services, business meetings) and as a small hotel. Also some TV series have been filmed here. ||Individual hotel rooms may be booked from mid-May to mid-September but the manor is open for private groups round the year. Public rooms are situated on the ground floor and six hotel rooms in the upstairs. Rooms are very historical but all modern facilities are available, including private bathrooms. In addition some romantic summer rooms may be available in adjacent buildings (e.g. the gamekeepers lodge). ||Room prices are about 170 euros and suites cost about 240 euros per night including taxes and the manor breakfast. The biggest suite is 40 square meters large but the smaller suite has a remote lake view. So prices aren't too high, I think. ||I really recommend this manor hotel if you love countryside, history, antique furniture, beautiful art and...
Read moreWe traveled as a couple for Finnish summer event Housing Fare Finland, which is held in Kouvola 30min drive away. We stayed for one night but would have loved to stay longer. ||||Location might seem a bit secluded but is only slightly above one hour drive from Helsinki. There is really nice lake with a beach in a walking distance. The surroundings include a showy garden and old forest and fields. ||||Nextdoors is an watercolour factory (the only in scandinavia) and has a factory outlet with comprehensive selection of colour products (pencils, crayons etc.) that are used f. e. in Finnish schools.||||Athmosphere was exceptional. The rooms and common spaces were in a good condition and were carefully renovated. The estate was decorated and furnished with 16th-19th century items. Every painting and object had a story to be told. Owner of the estate was very kind to explain how he had acquired certain objects and paintings and what the certain painting was about.||||Service was heartfelt and it felt like we were not just hotel visitors but private guests. Food was traditional, tasty and well prepared. Beds were really comfortable and rooms quiet. Every room was differently decorated but with a taste and with the same antique style. Passion for old objects and renovation was palpable.||||Highly recommended as this is truly an experience and something completely different than just...
Read moreOne of its kind - a unique carefully restored and decorated old country house. You do not stay in a hotel, but rather have a room in a home of the owners. Lots of antique, old furniture, makes the environment a bit unreal, almost like a museum, but not in a bad sense.||||The dinner offered onsite was however a point for improvement. Regular home food and mediocre wine marketed as a fine dinner - the premium paid for dining at an old table was quite high. Would recommend...
