Basic but sufficient, this low cost operated, not visibly staffed hotel was a new experience to us: no staff around, just a code access that allows you into your room, ...if codes are sent previously. The overall impression is outstanding, and considering the low price, is even better. This hotel gives you an inexpensive opportunity to explore surrounding areas on radial day trips like Savonnlina.||||A little bleak on an external close inspection: exposed concrete building and outdoors corridors as if in a Motel 6 . Some of the customers, idly smoking in the outdoor halls, enhance this gloomy panorama, being some of them low cost travellers, just like us. But don't let this disappoint you in any way.The rooms are spacious and offer a medium size fridge and microwave, plus reasonable amenities such as free wifi and hair drier. Trey are reasonable clean and quality of sleep is good.||||We arrived around 10 pm and nobody was around the premises to let you know how to get the room code access: none of the phone numbers shown were responsive and, as in a tragicomedy, he could overhear the phones ringing inside the deserted dark offices. Had it not been by the phone assistance of Nancy (of Booking international helpdesk) we'd be still there being assaulted by mosquitoes, waiting four our codes. Well, thanks too to the anonymous Russian customer who told us who to open the small office where they have a computer and more Phone numbers to try and get some help.||||It's a pity that Booking had not answered our three previous emails (sent some weeks ahead) requesting they send us the code access. This is more flagrant as Nancy proved that they had them already: they simply ignored our request, pretending the email went to the spam folder, which I checked permanently. And even the hotel staff (that had charged us the total amount of our stay weeks ahead too) simply ignored the letter we sent them.||||A little spooky if you considered for a moment what might happend in case of emergency but luckily this is...
Read moreWe reserved a room in this hotel for two nights, as part of a visit to Finland's Lake District.||||All the reservation well in advance by the internet (Booking.com), and we expected to get the code for entering the room by email. However, we did not receive the code by morning of check in on saturday . We tried to contact the hotel by phone and email, only to get a reply that there customer service does not work on weekends. Only after calling Booking.com's service (an international call, as Skype disconnected after about a minute) did we receive the room number and door code.||||Arriving at the hotel we found that our room was on the third floor, with no elevator.||||On the other hand - the room itself was spacious, with enough room for all four of us. It was well equipped - with a refrigerator, microwave oven, electric kettle, hairdryer and enough power outlets for all our gadgets. The window faced a forest. There is no air conditioning, and the shower was heated even in the warm (~25C) summer.||||As to location - the town of Mikkeli has no attractions, but it is a good base for travelling to interesting places in the region. The hotel is on the outskirts of the town, with a large parking lot. City center and shopping centers can be reached within a 10...
Read moreI had high hopes, when I booked Hotel Uusikuu. The hotel was supposed to be well equipped and clean. In any other aspect it was OK, but I found the room to be somewhat unclean. The carpet in the small hall was covered with dust, soil and dirt, so it wasn´t possible to enter the bathroom without putting shoes on. There was toohpaste on the shelf in the bathroom and there were suspicious stains on the sofa-bed. These are problems, that could be sorted out quite easily. My stay would my stay have been more pleasant, If thorough cleaning had been seen to. There is enough space for a small family and that´s a bonus. The information I received by email in advance was informative and inclusive. Apparently rather reasonable price makes this place particularly appealing to foreign builders and other working men. Note: Hotel Uusikuu is within walking distance from the...
