Hotel Hansabar was one of the places we stayed on our work related trip to Utsjoki and Karigasniemi. In hotel we were served really well, and I was amazed by the hotel rooms. I and two of my colleagues stayed in the apartment for three in a separate building next to the hotel. We had some issues with finding the right temperature to the room - I guess the quick drop of temperatures outside and few days without visitors the apartment had cooled down a bit. The apartment was tidy and it had a sauna. There would have been a small kitchen as well but we did not need it as we had dinner at the restaurant and breakfast in the hotel.||||We ate the dinner at the pub. It suited our group well as we did not expect anything formal and just needed food. We had ordered most of the meals before-hand and there we were surprised to see that those who didn't order in advance had their meals earlier than us who did. The menu is versatile. There are pizzas, fish, meat and burgers. Drinks can be ordered from tap or by the bottles. Staff was friendly.||||Breakfast was great. There was quite a lot of choices and everything tasted good. I always have some porridge (oat meal) when eating a hotel breakfast and this was perfectly soft and non-sticky. ||||It was proven that the restaurant area and meeting room are suitable for workshops even with quite a large groups. After the workshop we also had lunch and it was tasty as well. I had the vegetarian bowl from the kitchen and those who could eat meat, had a buffet. Next time if having a long meeting and workshop in the hotel, maybe I would ask for fruits or some other desserts that pastries, even though they were good. Just having a bun or other sweet cake on every coffee and as dessert, can make a long lasting sugar rush.||||We did not have time to explore the surroundings but the sceneries from the bus seemed such that Karigasniemi is a must go again place. Teno River was running close by and the valley...
Read moreI drove up and the place looked like a building site; there's obviously a lot of work going on which is not mentioned on any of the websites. Upon check in I was given the key to 'apartment 16'. I walked in and I walked out. Old, tatty with a threadbare sofa and disgusting shower facilities. To charge €100 for this apartment is daylight robbery! I paid the extra €22 to upgrade to a room in the 'hotel'. I'm not sure if they tried to make it look like a boutique hotel but it's just a bizarre set-up. The room itself was basic but fine and the bathroom was new and very nice. I had dinner in the restaurant downstairs: for starters I had the goats cheese salad was great, the chicken with (undercooked) risotto for a main course was so-so. The service was impeccable and friendly though.|The wifi signal is terrible; I believe there's only one router which is downstairs in the restaurant so when others are using it, forget about trying to FaceTime loved ones at home. It's 2016-I was in Kongsfjord before this, population 35, in the middle of nowhere and I got a better signal :(||I've been to Lapland and Finnmark 6 times and this must sadly be the worse place I've ever stayed in. Avoid and go across the river to Karasjok as they seem to have a nice hotel there or drive on to Inari or Kautokeino and stay there. This...
Read moreWe stayed one night in Kalastajan majatalo with our family on our way to Norway. It is in practice the last stop in Finland before entering Norway. Distance to the river Inari that acts as a border is about 200 meters.||||The place includes multiple different sized buildings and the main building includes the restaurant and reception. We stayed in 4 person 2 room apartment behind the main building.||||Like the name says Kalastajan majatalo is a good place for fishing as the river is very close. There are two small grocery stores, an alcohol shop and restaurant next to the place. Quite many Norwegians seemed to do shopping in Finland's side so I suppose the prices are...
