Hotelli Puustelli — Hotel in Pielinen Karelia

The hotel is a bit embarrassing, the decor is so outdated. Checking in was a bit of a hassle, since it took some time to find someone to take care of the process. The room was big and clean, but somewhat worn out. I stayed on the first floor. The hotel has 30 rooms and I think there were 2-3 rooms occupied in addition to mine during my stay. There is no night service in the hotel, which made it a bit creepy, when the doors were locked at 22:00 and the staff left. The brekfast was good and versatile. The restaurant menu was a bit limited, food was ok. The hotel is located right next to a river, so the view is superb. Also the place is quiet and staff (when you find some) was nice...

Clean but a bit worn rooms.||Standard buffet breakfast (including local Karelian pastries).||Some of staff very friendly and attentive, some not.||Free wifi everywhere in the hotel area.||Free sauna for guests.||Quite pricey considering the quality of the hotel and services, but if you want to come to Lieksa, there is not many hotel choices available.||The main issue at Puustelli is that the quality varies: some rooms are in better condition, some staff is nicer than others and most importantly, some of the foods in the restaurant are quite ok, but some I would not recommend. Hotel Puustelli has rather basic rooms but they are very neat and tidy. All the staff are very friendly and professional. The food is lovely, and lunch & dinner buffet is available until evening. As I arrived quite late, only the a la carte list dishes were available. I chose classic dish of fried vendace and mashed potatoes, which was one of the best I've ever had. Highly recommended!
