hotel Pihtipudas — Hotel in Saarijärvi-Viitasaari sub-region

We were driving in late autumn from Saariselka to Helsink, Finland; and we decided we needed to stop for the night. We found this recently refurbished small hotel owned by two amazing women. The hotel had only been open 2 weeks, and the restaurant had not yet opened, but we were greeted with hospitality like we have never seen anywhere in the world where we've traveled! The room was clean and freshly appointed, simple, yet very functional. The big surprise came in the morning when we woke to a snowstorm. Our ever-vigilant hotel owners were waiting for us. One started cleaning the snow from our car and carrying our luggage for us. The other strongly suggested we wait out the storm and go out to lunch with them. They were truly concerned about our safety in driving during the storm. We opted to leave because we had other hotel reservations, but we left with a smile and a great story to tell! I stayed here en route between S. Finland and Lapland in March 2021. In fact I stayed two nights because of a vicious snowstorm that lasted almost 24 hours. The place is functional, clean and very good value. Although there are no ‘full-service’ cooking facilities, most travellers won’t need this, so the mini-fridge and microwave suffice. The nearby supermaket has everything you might need. In 2021 the hotel was being ultra cautious on sanitary rules, and a breakfast hamper was offered in place of the restaurant breakfast (which would have been charged as an extra anyway). On balance this place is a refreshing change from the standard chain-hotels, is in a quiet but easily accessed spot and is well signposted from the main highway as ‘Hotelli Pihtipudas’. Respa auki vain 15-20. Iso huone, mutta vain yksi tuoli. Rahi, jonka päällä epämukava istua. Tosin siitä tulee kait lisävuode. Jääkaappi hurisee, koska se on irtaallaan lattialla. Hurina häiritsi nukkumistani. Se voisi olla eteisessä tai kaapissa. Kaappia ei ole. Pöytätilat pienet. Laskutilaa voisi olla enemmän. Eteisessä on penkki, mutta se on matalahko.

Jyrkähköt portaat, huoneet yläkerrassa. Tosi siistiä, hillityt värit. Kaunista taidetta seinillä. Nettiyhteys oli huono enkä tiedä olisiko hotellissa ollut wifiä kun ei salasanaa kerrottu. Teeveen kuva ja ääni pätkivät pahasti. Omituinen lukitussysteemi. Ystäväpariskuntamme huoneen 204 ovikoodi oli voimassa vain 27.4 saakka, vaikka yöpyivät 28.4 (kaksi yötä). Pääsivät "vahingossa" sisälle klo 24.00 jälkeen, kun tuttu henkilö sattui tulemaan ovesta ulos. He olisivat lähteneet vielä jatkoille mutta eivät uskaltaneet koska pelkäsivät etteivät pääsisi huoneeseen takaisin.

Aamupala oli ihan hyvä ja riittävä. Vaatimaton.

Pois lähtiessä ei respa ollutkaan auki ja siivooja pyysi avaimen. Meillä oli toinen matkalaukku yläkerrassa ja minä jouduin seisomaan ovien välissä silläaikaa kun mieheni sen haki. Aika niukalla henkilökunnalla hotellia pyöritetään ja siihen nähden huoneen hinta oli korkea.

Kamalat portaat yläkertaan. Alas tullessa kaide liian matalalla ja portaiden alapää pimeä ja jyrkkä. Kuulemma on invaramppi rakenteilla. Meillä oli niin kiireinen ohjelma, että emme ehtineet perehtyä kummalliseen ovien lukitussysteemiin. Kun tulee pitkän ajomatkan jälkeen perille, oli selitys liian monimutkainen. Silloin kun hotellissa on asukkaita, olisi kiva jos baari olisi pidempään auki. Ruokaa sai vain 18:30 saakka. Harvoin tulee illalla päästyä...
