In general, I think I’m a very impartial guest and my review are always objective. I visited a lot of accommodations in different locations with different typologies. My experience is always more or less convergent to the general vote of other guests but not this time. Just in summer 2015 we slept in over 25 camping/bungalow/hotel in Scandinavia. We never found a bad situation like this.|||| The person who received us spoke only finnish. That’s not a negative aspect, generally in situations like this you communicate in other way (keywords, signs). She absolutely understood that we didn’t understand finnish, she continued to speak for over 10 minutes anyway (useless) instead to speak with signs or simply to show us the basilar aspects. We arrived by bicycle, so it wasn’t so difficult to understand that we just needed to understand where the showersand toilets were. We tried and tried to speak with signs, but no way: she continued to speak finnish!||||After 1 hour we were still looking for the showers! My girlfriend finally found the shower, but they weren’t usable because they have been transformed in a storage (!). The finnish lady proposed a shower in another building, but unusable because the light didn’t work. So, the only shower for all camping/hotel guests was a shower placed in the men’s toilet of the restaurant. Ok, no problem we adapted to the circumstance.|||| After 2 hours the boss of the camping said us that the shower costed 3 euro per person! The price is not a problem, I’m ready to pay 3,5, 10 or 50 euro pro shower BUT:|||| 1. You say that BEFORE the shower, or you write it somewhere;||2. In booking.com there isn’t written. It’s commonly accepted that the shower is free, in case of the contrary you have to specify it.||3. I’m ready to pay the shower 3, 5 or 100 euro, but you provide me a service related to the price (and not an “open” shower in the men’s toilet with lukewarm water).||||This is absolute ZERO transparency.||||The bungalow was very dirty. We found death mosquitos everywhere. The beds were dirty. During my sleep my only goal was not to touch any part of the bad.||||The poor reindeer tied to the pole is shameful.||||I’ll never come here and I don’t advice it to...
Read moreWe stayed in a "chalet for 8 with two bedrooms" with 6 persons. I did not expect much comfort due to the (for Scandinavia) relatively low prices. But even these low expectations were not met because the features described in booking.com were not delivered. ||If a hut is named "chalet with 2 bedrooms" I expect two bedrooms beside a living room. This hut has only two bedrooms, but no living area. 4 beds and a mattress are in the loft. On the ground floor there is one room with a kitchenette, three beds, an oven and a table with benches that sits four people. Two additional chairs cannot be placed at the table for lack of space. No sofa or wardrobe despite the mention in booking.com. The two pots in the kitchen are too small for a soup for 6 people. ||All in all the chalet is simply not suitable for 6 or 8 people. And I think the hosts know this perfectly well because they provide no photos of the room on the ground floor. They only show the chalet from the outside, the loft and the kitchenette. What a strange coincidence. ||The location with different types of huts on the border of the lake is very nice. What a pity that the same can not be said of...
Read moreKelotin Rantamajat is a delightful oasis in the midst of the tranquil nature of Finnish Lapland. The hosts are charming and work really hard to optimise the experience of the visitors and to recommend other things to do in the nearby vicinity.(in the immediate vicinity there is only nature and nature-based activities year round, although there is a cool snow castle, forged by hand, nearby in winter, which kids will love, complete with numerous tunnels and hidden passages.)Only two of the people working here speak any English (which is not so uncommon in Finnish accommodation providers in the north...and after all, this is high in the Arctic!) Maiju's English is more or less fluent but she is one of the area's key paramedics and, therefore, may be away on a duty call when you arrive, so you may have to make do for a while before learning more about the area, until her return. Their young daughter is charming and altogether this feels very much like a family venture - very warm...
