The Paimio Sanatorium is an excellent example of Alvar Aalto's masterful architecture, combining aesthetics, functionality, and human-centered design. The building's design takes advantage of natural light, fresh air, and the surrounding environment as integral parts of the healing process, making it a unique and progressive healthcare facility for its time.

The extensive window surfaces and sun terraces allow for ample daylight and outdoor activities, creating a pleasant and healthy environment for both patients and staff. The Paimio Sanatorium is not just a physical structure but is holistically designed to support healing and well-being, reflecting Aalto's deep understanding of human needs.

A visit to the Paimio Sanatorium offers a unique insight into the combination of modern architecture and functional design, which remains relevant and inspiring today. I highly recommend exploring this...

I wanted to spend time and experience the sanatorium, so I decided to stay for two days there. The timing was perfect, as I travelled from Helsinki by bus, and then walked 1:20hours to the place. The first day you simply rest after the trip, second you can visit the tour and make a hike in a forest, and the third day you calmly leave. Place: I stayed in a nurses home, which was quite comfortable, giving you the experience of the omg times through its interior, colors and smells. Tour: informative, interesting. Restaurant: food was delicious, huge breakfast is included in the room price. Location: I was expecting more calm and tranquility, which was not really possible because of the nearby road. But times change, right? However the hike in the forest (11 km one) brings this feeling. Very easy and pleasant walk.

Overall, fully recommend the place...

Great example of functionalism. The building, furniture, colors, everything is planned by great Finnish arcitect couple Alvar and Aino Aalto. Built 1933 (finished). Also the surroundings are beatiful with pine forest area. It was built for tuberculose sanatoriun, but changed to a normal hospital later. Now it is kept up by a foudation to save a great ensemble of functionalism style. Inside is also a collection of Aalto furiture. You should reserve a guided tour in forehand. In the building is also a restaurant and you can also reserve accommodation from the building on the area. If you are interested about Finnish arcitecture (functionalism) or design (F.ex.the furniture are in cult reputation and highly expensive today) this is a great...
