Briqueterie Champagne, A Beauvallon Hotel & Spa — Hotel in Épernay

There is a standard expected at a Relais & Chateau hotel and this hotel is far from it. There is a lot wrong:||- the hotel is tired in places particularly the dining room and spa.|- no towels available in the spa|- the spa is slightly dirty possibly just old decor|- one small towel per person in the room|- no tea or coffee facilities in the room|- air conditioning did not work. It was 30 degrees + outside. ||The worst thing is the staff. Pretty unhelpful and rude at the front desk with an air of arrogance. We waited 10 minutes to order a drink in the bar and and constantly had to wave at the staff to get their attention. The staff could not have been more unfriendly on our arrival. The general manager appeared out of his depth and brow beaten. Unfortunately I am sure we are not the only ones to be complaining and there was a steady flow the evening we were there.||Food was ok but not exceptional. It is expensive for what you get. Lots of sweet / savoury combinations which some people like and some don’t. ||The only positives were the Sommelier who was excellent, very knowledgeable and friendly and the Bell Boy who was smiley and helpful. ||There is good parking but NB the hotel is on a busy road and the noise is noticeable at night. Our room was on the road side. ||There are better hotels. I would avoid this one unless there is a major overhaul. Don’t be fooled by the Relais & Chateau brand. This is not a Relais & Chateau...

I booked a package at this hotel (a significant amount of money) with payment up front and they charged me twice. Despite several attempts to contact them they have not responded to me at all so I will have to go through the chargeback route on my credit card.||I spoke to the Relais & Chateau headquarters about this and they could not have been less interested - they just said they couldn’t help me and that staff at the hotel were probably ‘too busy’ to respond to me. They said I should just wait and see what happens!||Avoid at all costs unless you want to...

So near and yet so far. The building and gardens are nice, and the busy road did not bother us. There is an interesting choice of champagne by the glass available in the bar all the time. You can sit on the terrace and enjoy the garden. The food at dinner was superbly cooked and I can see why Michelin rate it. But the service at dinner was awful. Not just slow but aggressively bad. The senior staff were rude and lazy. I would avoid this place and will not return. We had to get an overcharge removed...
