My friends and I had a car break down on route to Calais and needed to find somewhere to stay for the night. Being stranded without a vehicle and accommodation in rural France is no joke. Taxi's are few and far between, particularly on a Sunday night. It was a bitterly cold night and we were all quite worried. How fortunate we were to have found La Ferme Du Temple whilst searching for somewhere to stay. Not only did they provide a beautiful and very comfortable triple room with a lovely ensuite (complete with huge free standing bath), but also very kindly offered to collect us from the garage where our car was and return us there the next morning, as well as a quick pit stop at the pizza place to get dinner for us. Roger and his wife were delightful hosts in every sense and the breakfast spread was absolutely delicious. Our room was decorated beautifully and was warm, cosy and clean. We had access to a living and dining area and also a small kitchen and even a fridge well stocked with booze. The property is stunning and has fabulous gardens and seating overlooking a lake. We were sad not to be able to stay long enough to visit the area - should we return to take a better look around, we would not hesitate to stay here again. We cannot thank our hosts enough for taking such brilliant care of us in our hour of need, they certainly went above and beyond the call of duty. It is this wonderful old fashioned service that makes staying in independently owned accommodation so much more special than any fancy pants hotel chain. Incredible value and a kindness we will not forget, despite the unpleasant circumstances in which we found...
Read moreWe stayed at La Ferme du Temple for the second time in September during a trip to the Champagne area. Had found it by chance 4 years ago, and had been wanting to return! The old stone buildings, the charming owners and the home made yogurt made an impression the first stay, and we were delighted that nothing had changed. Our room was large with a double and single bed, writing table, private bathroom and tall windows that looked out on the farm buildings and the ruined temple. Wireless was available in the room so we could check in on the route for the next day. The nearby village, Passy-Grigny, is typical of the region and has several champagne houses. We enjoyed the visit to Dom Caudron where they will tour you through the vineyards and the processing facilities. If you have a car and enjoy being in the country, this is a lovely option. We'll definitely stay again the next time we...
Read moreWe spend a very nice weekend at la Ferme du Temple, a "gite", part of the french network of simple bed and breakfast-hotels on the countryside. Martine was a very good host, helpful, flexible and always ready to come up with an answer to our questions. Our room was comfortable, the big advantage of this "gite" is the big living room where you can prepare your own dinner. ||Don't expect any luxury, a "gite" is a cheap way to spend the night outside of a city. The main atraction of this farm is the history of the place, an old "commanderie" of the Templars Knights, dating from the beginning of the 13th century. ||You can visit the church and stay in the garden where the monks created a small lake some 800 years ago. A very special place in this region where you will find lots of Champagne producers and can walk or ride your bike for several hours through...
