Château la gauchetiere — Hotel in Alençon

Chateau la gauchetiere is a treasure! We had searched in Normandy for a Chateau large enough for my family (we were twenty-one people ranging in age from eleven to eighty-five) and were lucky to discover this wonderful and unique Chateau situated in beautifully landscaped grounds. Both the extraordinary beauty and comfort of the Chateau and the graciousness of our host (and owner), Valerie, insured that our family event was perfect! The historic Chateau is spacious and furnished with gorgeous antique furniture and art, yet the feeling in the Chateau is that of a welcoming, relaxed, and very comfortable home. There are a number of various sized rooms on the ground floor, so there was always space for quiet conversations/reading/work. The bedrooms are well appointed with luxurious linens, and there was plenty of hot water with good pressure in the various bathrooms. The kitchen is extraordinarily well-equipped, and there are two refrigerators (handy with a large family) and a washer & dryer (which not all European homes have). There is also a large heated swimming pool. The ground floor opens in the back onto a large terrace/patio furnished with several wooden tables, comfortable wooden chairs (with cushions), and a couple of sun umbrellas. One of the many pleasures of the week was to come downstairs every morning to a lovely continental breakfast and then to take one’s coffee/tea a few steps outside to the terrace and revel in the glorious morning light which evoked nothing so much as the grounds of a royal castle. We also ate most of our dinners outside because the “back” door was conveniently located by the kitchen and dining room. When we found the Chateau, we immediately fell in love with it, but at the same time we wondered if it was a bit isolated. We needn’t have worried! It is very near to Sees, a charming old village with a spectacular cathedral, bakeries, creperies, and other eateries. There are a wide range of restaurants in the area as well as a supermarket. Some of the activities in the area include great hikes, tennis at a nearby court, and a myriad of other pleasures which we found on google. One of our reasons for going to Normandy was to visit the WWII sites (Omaha Beach, the American Cemetery, etc.), and the Chateau is close enough so that a day tour was quite feasible. Throughout my planning, Valerie was extraordinary! She responded promptly to my emails, gave us terrific advice about food and the locale, and, along with the ambiance of the Chateau, helped make our week incredibly happy and...

Nous avons choisi ce lieu pour nous retrouver en famille autour d’un anniversaire. Nos hôtes avaient tout prévu pour nous afin que notre séjour soit des plus agréables. De grandes et lumineuses chambres avec une literie de qualité nous attendaient. Les salles de bains sont très bien équipées et spacieuses avec des ambiances variées. Nous avons pris l’apéritif dans le grand salon bleu, installés comme des châtelains. Le dîner dans le petit salon a été préparé par un traiteur avec lequel nos hôtes ont l’habitude de travailler, un régal de bout en bout avec mention spéciale pour le tiramisu caramel beurre salé. Le temps nous a permis de faire une promenade familiale dans le parc, pour les uns et pour d’autres, de faire du foot, du Ping Pong et autres jeux mis à disposition. Le grand plus, même si la température extérieure était un peu trop juste, nous avons pu profiter de la piscine chauffée !!! Vous pouvez y allez les yeux fermés. Nous étions une trentaine pour fêter des 30 ans, tout s'est merveilleusement bien passé.

Les propriétaires sont chaleureux et au delà du contact facile cela ce ressent dans la manière dont lieu est disposé.

Le domaine et le château sont magnifiques et très bien entretenus, cela fait son petit effet, même en ayant vu les photos au préalable.

Le lieu est fonctionnel : cuisine, équipements, mobilier, sanitaires, douches, tout est qualitatif, en nombre et suffisant.

Les chambres sont à la fois pleines d'histoire et rénovées ce qui les rendent très confortables, la literie n'est pas en reste également.

Pour les activités, de nombreux jeux et matériel de loisirs sont présents, vous ne vous ennuierez pas. La piscine est chauffée, les plus frileux d'entre nous ont pu si glisser facilement, elle est également tres pratique si vous voulez faire des cours d'aquagym :)

S'il pleut, l'intérieur est assez grand pour tout le monde.
