We came to The Chateau de Chantelauze for our first night in France. And what an unusual night it was! Greeted by the owner, Christian Georges we were shown around a beautifully kept, stunning Chambre d'Hote. Our room was delightful - upgraded to a suite. Spotlessly clean and highly decorative. Dinner was an experience which we shared with four other couples and the owner. All were native French speakers and very generous about our rusty attempts at speaking their language! We very much enjoyed meeting them. Food was excellent and the remainder of the evening was a fascinating entertainment orchestrated by Monsieur Georges himself - monkey collections, anecdotes and an interesting and complex view of the cosmos! An engaging and thought-provoking take on life!|The local village is a short walk away and worth exploring and the surrounding gardens are lovely. |Christian and his wife were excellent hosts and have given us a great...
Read moreWe were slightly apprehensive about our visit after reading some of the reviews but should not have worried. |This is a real gem of a place to stay. Beautiful scenery in the national park the chateau overlooks the town below and your hosts Christian and Korin are incredibly helpful. ||We stayed in "the loft" as we are 2 adults and 3 children. Surprisingly this is not high up in the eaves but on the ground floor with its own access from the courtyard as well as access to the guest lounge. ||This place is quirky, swimming in the fountain which is indeed the official swimming pool was amazing as was the pink house next tobthe tennis courts full of things for our 3 boys to do. Plumbing was excellent though with a lovely warm shower. ||Breakfast a delight and we missed out on dinner as had not pre booked but they were happy to make us a light supper if required. ||Wished we could have stayed longer and would definitely...
Read moreWe travel extensively, and occasionally find a place that is both very pleasant and unique. Such a place is Chateau de Chantelauze.||||The hosts, Christian and Corrine are very welcoming. Christian is a warm, interesting and loquacious fellow - a bit eccentric in the very best sense. Listen to him, and you will be rewarded. If you like everyone around you to be just like you, he is not your fellow. If you like interesting people who have a unique view of the world, you will like and enjoy him, as we did.||||Corrine is a fine chef, and dinner and wine were very pleasant. She is also a very warm and welcoming person, whom we enjoyed being with.||||The Chateau itself has not been renovated, but is well maintained and comfortable (as are the beds). Would enjoy staying there again when we next in...
