Abri des Mésanges — Hotel in Angoulême

My partner and I had an excellent first experience of a chambre d’hote at Abri des Mesanges. Philippe gave us a personal and warm welcome coupled with a memorable culinary experience including his own sourdough bread, house-smoked salmon, freshly baked cakes, and homemade granola. His house cake, an almond cake based on his grandmother’s recipe was so delicious I had to have the recipe which he eagerly shared. Philippe prepared a beautiful dinner with local ingredients starting with aperitif and nibbles in the garden, followed by three courses, a cheese course and local wine around the farmhouse table in the kitchen. Philippe was formerly the owner/chef of a Paris restaurant for 25 years before making this dramatic life shift. Where to begin. What an absolutely perfect stay at L'abri Des Mesanges. Micky and Philippe are world-class hosts. Their home is so tastefully decorated, while the surrounding property is gorgeous, complete with a huge pool overlooking the countryside. The dinner and conversations we shared together were the highlight of our time in France. We cannot wait to visit again.
