Superlatives could be thrown in abundance for this review. But I am going to try and keep it relatively short and to the point.
This was the most perfect retreat for five perfect days. Our hosts, Alicja and Michael, have worked extremely hard and continue to do so, just to make your stay utterly memorable.
With four gite's with a maximum of 10 people, you will not be crowded out. Room to enjoy the sloping, expansive gardens. Complete with mature fruit trees, fig, apple and peach to name a few. Or relaxing in the private pool. To just sit in one of the tree chairs, taking in the peace and quiet. Or go a bit mad and make use of the fun games and activities provided. All the gite's are self contained with fully functional kitchen. All at an exceedingly high level. You are 10 minutes by car to Chalais, 30 minutes from Riberac, where can stock up on food and beer on day one. Then simply do nothing until it's time to leave.
We initially brought our daughter with us to stay with her best friend who's family have relocated to Aubeterre (8 minutes away). We wanted her and her friend to experience he same as us. So we rented the gite next door for a few days also. The plan is to get enough of my family interested so we can book all the gite's at some time next year.
Alicja provides breakfast's and dinner to order. Wow. Beautiful food served in beautiful surroundings. You must let Alicja cook for you. And ask about the candles and soaps she makes.
What was the best thing about our stay? Easy answer is Alicja and Michael. We have met two lovely people who are creating their dream for others to enjoy along with them.
Alicja and Michael. We are now lucky enough to call you our friends. And to have you saying the same of us. This means more than we can say here and now.
Thank you. For everything. It was OUR pleasure to be there with you both. See...
Read moreWhat can I say about, not only this beautiful little bit of beauty and tranquility, but also about Alicja and Michael. The whole place is stunning, from the moment you drive in, open your car door and smell the beautiful French air, you then look at your surroundings and think, yes, this was a brilliant choice. As you walk from your car, you view the lovely stone cottages and their pretty little gardens. Walk a little further, and you see glipmses of the swimming pool glistening in the sun light and the chairs waiting for you to sit pool side drinking a cocktail and laughing with you friends and relatives. As you walk further, you are then met by the wonderful Alicja and the busy but relaxed Michael. They are so welcoming. They offer the finest of touches to your stay. My daughter is pregnant, and she was issued with alcohol free sparkly wine. Each gite was introduced to us by both Alicja and Michael. We were shown the beautiful 12 x 6 metre pool, along with the littles games room and areas for having fun. We were shown the wonderful orchard where you are free to walk around and eat as much as you want. Each Gite was fully accommodated with everything you could wish for. Would we stay again, you are damn right we will. If you are reading this and thinking of staying, dont think, just go, you will not be dissapointed. Thank you and love to you Alicja and Michael. Read moreWe have just spent 3 nights at La Colline de Tilleul and have never felt so relaxed and rejuvenated after such a short amount of time.
Alicja & Michal welcomed us warmly and immediately made us feel at home. There were so many beautiful treats waiting for us, fresh bread, jam, a bottle of local wine, cold beers in the fridge, cake, chocolates... just wow!
Our gîte was cosy and inviting with fresh flowers, big fluffy towels and handmade soaps in the bathroom. The kitchen was perfectly equipped for cooking, including olive oil and vinegar, not to mention a whole array of spices!
The property and gardens are simply magnificent. Gorgeous flowers and trees create a deeply peaceful environment. There are lots of little nooks to relax in, a hammock, swings, comfy chairs underneath the honeysuckle.... not to mention the glorious swimming pool.
There are also lots of activities available if you so desire, ping-pong, foosball, pétanque, darts, bikes to explore the stunning surrounding countryside and little villages.
Alicja & Michal are kind and wonderful hosts... they even brought us iced coffees by the pool and then beer and gin & tonic before dinner! La Colline de Tilleul is a very special place... we will be dreaming of our stay for a long time and can't...
