Continuing on our French road trip, we are now staying at various chateaus throughout the nation.|Our stay at the Chateau de Couin was exiting and different.|An 18th century historical property, undergoing ongoing restoration, was quite charming and different.|Having read other reports I must agree with most. Read moreMake no bones about it, this is a great place for people who like old stones and a night in an historic place.....but historic places (unless they cost a fortune per night) are never as perfect as one would like, so you have to be prepared for that.|This chateau has been brought back into service after decades of neglect and the owners still have a major project on their hands. I recommend it to those who are prepared for less luxury/comfort in exchange for some great history. Our co guests from Ottawa were clearly enamoured with the whole experience too!||Bed good, breakfast fine, welcome enthusiastic but not professional hoteliers.||We were there during a heatwave....might be a little dank in the foggy winter!||Top marks and my vote to people who are bringing back to life a fabulous building and place.....10...

It is in the middle of nowhere. ||It took us all ages to find how to get in as the big old wrought iron gates look like they have never been opened for hundreds of years! ||Inside the chateau the owners are restoring it to its original glory. Our bedroom looked amazing but the mattress is so old that we were falling into the middle of the bed. ||There are no locks on any doors. ||The owners have a long road ahead of them to get this up to a good hotel standard but you have to accept that this a like someone's house and you are a (paying) guest. ||You must be prepared to travel at least 12 miles down tiny roads to get something to eat in the evenings unless you make prior arrangements with the...
