After enjoying our overnight stay in the Spring, we came back for a 4 day break with a couple of friends. Again we had the Campagne room, which is really a suite. Part of the purpose of our visit was to plan our next holiday and we had a conference in the sitting room with the whole room bathed in sunlight. The bed was comfortable, the water nice and hot, with a generous supply of towels, just right for a bath or shower after a day's touring and anticipating a superb evening dinner.||Corinne and Christian are generous and enthusiastic hosts. The breakfast was very good with wonderful breads locally sourced. The three dinners were very varied in the content. The quality was consistently high and attractively presented showing Christian's talent. He is a former chef.||The house is situated in a rural setting, with lovely unspoiled countryside, reminiscent of our travels in France 30 years ago. There are lots of interesting places to visit. Our favourites were the Chateau at Ancy le Franc, wine tasting at Chablis and in the caves of a Crémant de Bourgogne producer. People rave about the Abbey of Vézélay, but during our visit it was under repair and large portions of the building were under plastic covering. We preferred the Abbey at Fontenay which was set in a beautiful suquestered valley.and is...
Read moreWe stayed for 5 nights at the end of May. This may have been a brave or foolish move as we had not stayed in this region before. It turned out to be an inspired decision. From the moment we arrived we were made so welcome by our hosts Christian and Corinne. We were shown to our room -- Rollande -- and could not believe the size of the sitting room. The Accommodation was perfectly clean and was of a 5 star quality. We had dinner on two evenings and the quality and presentation was unbelievable. It is probably fair to say that these meals were of Michelin Star quality. The conversation around the dinner table was also rewarding. The breakfast was also delicious. Girolles may be somewhat off the beaten track but the scenery and tranquility is worth that extra drive. There is plenty to see in the area with Vezelay topping our list. However, there are lots of small pretty villages in the area where you can stop and have coffee and relax. We are so grateful to Christian and Corinne for making this such a...
Read moreWe (2 adults, 1 child) stayed in the Campagne room in July, and it was a wonderful experience. You get the feeling of being transported back to the early 20th century, staying at a good friend's country home. The room is furnished with great charm, and the bathroom belies its slightly antique appearance and functions perfectly. We were given a very friendly welcome by Corinne, Christian and Voltaire, their cheese-loving Labrador. Dinner seemed a bit on the expensive side at first, until we experienced it - 4 courses including generous hors d'oeuvres and a mind-bending cheese platter, accompanied by an aperitif and different wines for the courses. Breakfast featured more homemade jams than we could try on our three-day visit. The location is in a small, quiet village off the beaten track, with all its advantages and disadvantages. Absolutely recommended if you are visiting this part...
