we booked for a different experience. It is indeed an unusual location and it feels like sleeping in a museum. There's a sense of history and the chateau is beautifully kept, full of antiques.||It is worth noting that it is also extremely clean.||||However for us, friendliness is equally important and we have stayed in very basic places before, which left a warm feeling. That we did not get here.||||We made time around Lille but it was a hot day and my in-laws were tired so we arrived at 16:30, knowing that the check-in is 18:00. I had hoped for a little flexibility, especially as it had been mentioned that there was a lounge that guests could use and outside seating. The owners were adamant that we could only arrive at 18:00 and should leave||||We investigated the village but there is nothing there. Jenlain is a rural spot. It has a famous brewery, which we thought might open for visitors. The receptionist was friendly but found the idea of visiting ludicrous, ||||We ended up driving around and got to see a bit of the area. We made the best of the experience. Other guests seemed in awe of the setting but walking on tiptoes is not our thing and the unfriendly attitude is what will stick with us-...
Read moreStayed here for 1 night (unfortunately ,would have loved longer) More of a manor house than chateux but beautiful rooms and spotless. Do not agree with the previous review at all Whilst the room are large and certainly filled with antiques you can wander at will and there are many personal touches such as an antique lace collection, dolls etc. The owners only speak French but we got along just fine with our abysmal language skills. This is not some Novatel hotel where you can check in at any time after 2 pm but a home It would have been a courtesy to check with the owner if you could arrive earlier ||||The room we had was the Rose room and it was large with a big canopied bed which was comfortable. A large bathroom with a bath and shower. There are large grounds and it is very peaceful. The breakfast was fantastic and for euro 68 a night was the best value the whole trip. No there is nothing at Jenlain but location is good for touring around Cambrai etc.||||For a Lord of the Manor experience go here. No photos unfortunately...
Read moreIndeed, you sleep in a castle, or rather in a manor house, with many many objects, and antiques... like in a museum. ||||We went for the Suite, which is not expensive at all compared Hotels. Pricing is at the right value of 85. Bathroom is old style; charmingly used. The tiny TV is old with few French local channels. ||||However, the room smells a bit the humidity. It is clean, but not fresh. Carpet has to be changed. Some dust inherent to a castle or a large house.||||Check-in welcome was non existant (we had few questions on touristic spots and restaurants that we could not ask). Impossible to find a restaurant nearby; we went to the neighbour city of Le Quesnoy (where we had a very bad experience...).||||Breakfast was standard, simple; no opportunity to speak then to owners.||||However, we have to say that we got an excellent and friendly service from the owners since we left one object behind, that was sent later on professionally to us.||||It is worth to stop one night if you are...
