My husband and I stayed at Chateau Gigognan for three nights at the end of our honeymoon. We arrived late, and could reach no one on the phone. Instructions to use the lock box had been sent via email. That evening, the tea and coffee service was under lock and key. While the late arrival was our fault, at no other time during our visit did anyone introduce themselves as the proprietor, welcome us, etc. The first morning, a gentleman offered warm milk for coffee, the second, a young lady inquired as to our room. When we returned to the room after breakfast, the bed had been made, without coverlet and shams, but no towels replaced. We had not hung the sign requesting service. ||On the note of signs, we found two in the room: One requesting we not dry towels on the radiator (fair) and one stating that "self-catering" in the room was not allowed. This did not give a feeling of welcoming. The nearby town (Sorgues) had very few dining options, and almost none late. ||The continental breakfast consisted of self-serve coffee and tea, small pastries and bread (set out to cut). The table was not set.||Chateau Gigognan is certainly beautiful. The room we stayed (Chambre Sophie) had a lovely Victorian-style decor and a wonderful soaking tub in the bathroom. The vineyard, on a warm day, is gorgeous. However, it seems that the customers to the winery (the tasting room is attached to the B&B) are more valued than those at the inn. My husband and I appreciate a peaceful stay, but for the amount of money paid ($200+ a night), I do expect a more hospitable stay -- a proper welcome, a set table for breakfast, new towels each day, and perhaps a written guide to nearby restaurants in each room, as the Chateau does not offer evening meals. In fact, a bottle of estate wine for each room would be appropriate for a vineyard chateau. ||Upon departure, we simply put the keys on the dresser and left. At no time were we formally greeted, asked about our accommodation or if we required anything (save the aforementioned milk), thanked for our patronage, anything. We don't care for chitchat or small talk, and generally prefer our privacy, but this felt less like respect of privacy and more like lack of hospitality.||I had high hopes for Chateau Gigognan, but I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a special experience, or for whom the price is a luxury. The beauty of the house and grounds only...
Read moreWe stayed here for a whole week on a small-group tour of Provence. The tour company rented the entire chateau for our group. It was a wonderful experience! The rooms were gorgeous and HUGE, including the bathroom. We were assigned the Clairette room. Our room was "refreshed" with a mid-week housekeeping, but there was no daily housekeeping service. The air conditioning worked well, once we learned how to adjust it. The common areas included a room with a pool table, and a large living room with a baby grand piano and a table set up for chess games. We ate most of our breakfasts and some dinners out on the verandah. Breakfast was included; typical fare was a basket of giant croissants, meat and cheese platter, and a bowl of amazing ripe fruit. The coffee machine was a bit finicky, and internet was slow and could be spotty, but those were minor inconveniences in such incredibly beautiful surroundings. The chateau is a working winery, and we had the option to do a tasting in the winery facility, which we very...
Read moreThis remarkable chateau ticks every possible box to give you an absolutely unique and glorious stay in a wonderful place set amidst their grape vines. I can not think of enough superlatives to rate it!||||The chateau has been restored and renovated with incredible style and no expense spared. The rooms are huge, the bathrooms ditto, the decor stunning. The grounds are wondrous, green cool, inviting. The verandas charming to sit on and the pool incredibly stylish. The staff are uniformly friendly and helpful (thank you Melisa and the other staff), and their wines very decent too! (A free wine tasting and tour of the winery are included with your room booking.)||||It's location outside of town makes for an absolutely silent sleep on wonderful quality mattresses (with heavy cotton sheets!). This does mean a drive into town for dinner, as the chateau does not offer an evening meal (though it gives a very good breakfast).||||Value for money, it offers a truly unique and wonderful experience...
