The Bastide is a beautifully restored, large stone farmhouse (with ample parking) very near to Caumont (itself a starting point for many wonderful walks, but very well-located to explore the Luberon, northern Vaucluse, and Avignon or Aix). The rooms are large and very comfortable with large beds, excellent AC and heat, and wifi (there are only approx 5 rooms, and 2 further exterior self-catering suites). A lounge and small public kitchen (fridge and microwave) are provided for guests along with local wines. The Bastide is set within very large, beautifully landscaped grounds, characteristic of Provence, and allows for privacy, either on the terrace adjoining the house, or on the grounds. There's plenty of room to picnic, etc. A real luxury for swimmers is the very large, beautifully designed swimming pool, with ample deck to accommodate the guests, and changing room.||Breakfasts include superb house made preserves, local fruits and juices, patisseries, or cooked items, lovingly prepared by Sophie. The owners, Uri and Sophie, couldn't be more delightful, congenial, or helpful. Uri can advise on almost anything you may want to see, eat, or otherwise need; and tells marvellous stories of their adventures in hospitality over the years. Their dog Leyla is a joy, but also totally obedient (so if you're uncomfortable with dogs you needn't worry). We've stayed several times, in summer and off-season, and loved it here.||There really isn't anything more to say, but...

Read moreThis is a magical venue. The grounds are large, so that the fitness freak can fruitfully indulge. The rooms are well-provisioned and aesthetic without being luxurious, while the temperature is reasonable when it is impossible outside. One can always escape to the swimming pool. The hosts are friendly and provide not only a welcome going well beyond that of a hotel-client relationship, but provide a mine of information about the local area. The breakfasts are sumptious, continental rather than merely French, thoughtfully provided by th hosts themselves, and deliver an opportunity to meet other guests. During our stay, we met a whole variety of other guests, hailing from a mix of backgrounds and corners of the globe, and speaking a challenging number of languages. For the ecologically conscious, this venue is ideal, as it runs largely off the grid, and one can easily recharge an electric car.
Drawbacks: Well, you'll need your own transport, although it's not too far in the car from Avignon and Isle de la Sorgue. The price of the adult idyll is that it's not available for chidren under 14. And pricewise, good value for money, but, well, not for those who usually...
