Camping Le Noyer du Baron — Hotel in Barcelonnette

Liked: one of those beautiful accidental discoveries! a great base for exploring this part of the French/Italian alps, we reached it via an easy scenic drive to/from Turin

it's rated 2 star but its proper French 2 star (perhaps because there's no catering/pool?) deserves more imho. a quiet mature (50+ years now?) beautifully appointed old school clearly very well maintained spotless site which is what we hoped for

situated in a lovely accessible part of the valley, rafting and watersports a short walk away, Barcelonette a lovely town few mins drive away for the Carrefour and lots of other interesting things too...

despite soaring temperatures at time of travel in late August (it touched 40degC out and about couple of the days) the shade works very nicely at the campsite to keep things in check: up to mid morning and from teatime onwards so with the well planted mature trees and the gentle mountain breeze coming thru it cooled right down and we could get a great nights sleep! zero bugs mozzy problems etc.

we stayed in one of their Tepees, in vgc and all gear supplied worked. washing facilities lovely and clean and again everything worked

we had a special needs child with us and the layout was excellent and all very safe

also the site owner Agnès was very accessible and friendly and gave us plenty of local tips for sightseeing etc.

Disliked: literally nothing! its one of the best value sites I've stayed in, we will...

Tijdens het op de bonnefooi rondtrekkend kamperen hebben wij dit pareltje in 2007 ontdekt. Sinds die tijd verblijven wij op onze rondreis jaarlijks ook een korte of langere periode op deze camping en zo ook in 2020. Deze camping bestaat al meer dan 50 jaar en wordt nu door de 3e generatie van de familie Pignatel op een prettig ontspannen wijze beheerd. De eigenaar spreekt, naast Frans, zeer goed Engels. Deze groene camping heeft ruime niet afgebakende plaatsen met zon en schaduw en een uitstekend in 2017 vernieuwd sanitair gebouw. Een grote veranda met zitgelegenheid bij het centrale sanitair gebouw geeft beschutting voor gasten en hier is ook prima (gratis) wifi aanwezig. De camping heeft onder meer een klein speeltoestel en een speelhuisje voor jonge kinderen, een ping-pong tafel, een jeu-de-boules baan en last-but-not-least ligt vrijwel tegen de camping een idylisch gelegen meertje. In dit meertje kan gezwommen worden, diverse andere watersporten zoals stand-up-paddling gedaan worden en ook op vis of kreeftjes gevist worden. Naast een zwemstrandje (met toezicht) geschikt voor kleine kinderen zit ook een restaurantje. Brood kan s'ochtends in een op loopafstand gelegen hotel-restaurant in het het naastgelegen dorpje Lauzet-Ubaye gekocht worden. De camping is een fantastische uitvalsbasis voor vele activiteiten in de regio. Bijvoorbeeld diverse wandeltochten kunnen vanuit de camping gestart worden, (hoge) bergtoppen beklommen worden, diverse indrukwekkende bergpassen kunnen bereden worden of raften of andere watersporten kunnen in de Ubaye of Lac-de-Serro-Poncon gedaan worden. Barcelonette is een leuk stadje met goede winkels. Wij ontdekken elk jaar weer nieuwe leuke activiteiten en bestemmingen dichtbij de camping. De omgeving is fantastische en vanwege de gunstige ligging in de Alpes-De-Haute-Provence is het weer door de 'Provencialse invloeden' over het algemeen zeer aangenaam. Wat ons betreft is deze camping een aanrader, onze kinderen (en gelukkig ook de ouders) willen er elk jaar weer naar toe.

(English translation) We discovered this gem in 2007 while touring from campsite to campsite. Since that time, we have been staying at this campsite for a short or longer period every year on our tour and so also in 2020. This campsite has existed for more than 50 years and is now managed in a pleasantly relaxed manner by the 3rd generation of the Pignatel family. The owner speaks English very well in addition to French. This green campsite has spacious, unmarked pitches with sun and shade and an excellent sanitary building, renovated in 2017. A large veranda with seating near the central sanitary building provides shelter for guests and there is also excellent (free) wifi available. The camping site has, among other things, a small playground and a playhouse for young children, a ping-pong table, a jeu-de-boules court and last-but-not-least, an idyllically situated lake is located almost against the camping site. In this lake you can swim, various other water sports such as stand-up paddling can be done and you can also fish for fish or crustaceans. Next to a swimming beach (with supervision) suitable for small children, there is also a restaurant. Bread can be bought in the morning in a at walking distance situated hotel restaurant in the neighboring village of Lauzet-Ubaye. The campsite is a fantastic base for many activities in the region. For example, various hiking tours can be started from the campsite, (high) mountain peaks can be climbed, various impressive mountain passes can be ridden or rafting or other water sports can be done in the Ubaye or Lac-de-Serro-Poncon. Barcelonette is a nice town with good shops. Every year we discover new fun activities and destinations close to the campsite. The surroundings are fantastic and because of the favorable location in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, the weather is generally very pleasant due to the 'Provencial influences'. As far as we are concerned, this campsite is a must, our children (and fortunately also the parents) want to go...

The nicest campsite I have ever been to! Stunning mountain location, a small lake at the bottom to swim and paddleboard in. A spring stream running through it. They have thought of everything for the children. Everything has a personal touch with an eco conscience. Beautifully clean, sustainable, considerate to people and the land it's on. They grown their own and feed the guests with it in soirees of music and food, using everyone's food waste as compost to grow more next year. It is basically their summer garden and welcome all like family. Amazing and yet modest with what they do. Even the rubbish and recycling is a pleasure to do! 😆 Totally charming!
