Making the best of the late summer weather we took a trip into the mountains passing over the Col de Cayolle at 2300m or some 7500ft.|Descending on the North side we decided to look for a place to eat, the road was quite narrow with the ubiquitous hair pin bends & the GPS showed something resembling an intestine instead of the road, half way down we saw way down in the valley a group of properties & the welcome sight of coloured parasols indicating a restaurant.|The external terrace was quite full save for only one table which we took.|The restaurant for the greater part was occupied by cyclists.|The owner said that all that was left was a daube (stew) with pigs cheeks accompanied with salad & various trimmings.|The serving was copious, myself, regrettably had to leave some as I was beaten.|We did not take wine as there was a long drive still ahead over tricky mountain roads.|I can only comment on the meal but every indication pointed to a well run establishment, clean & well run, looking forward to my next visit although not over the mountain as the pass will be closed during the winter as 2m of snow is the norm & this place is above the snow line even for...
Read moreThis refuge is a gem of a find that we found just as we came out of the park. We were tired but we were not disappointed after coming over the pass during the day from the south. The location is remote, quiet, and was a true refuge where we could rest, enjoy a artisan craft beer on the deck or walk in the park across the bridge and listen to the river.
