I originally booked a more expensive hotel at the other side of the island and changed to this (I saw a review from a guest on TA from March and that decided if for me!) so pleased I did! The website doesn’t do it justice. We had a lovely room in the main house. Well decorated, with a large terrace and fridge. We also had the cottage at the rear of the property with an outside, covered seating area, kitchen and a small plunge pool. This had two en-suite bedrooms (which wasn’t clear from the website) so was absolutely ok for family or even two couples. Air conditioned throughout. Lovely grounds and swimming pool. The best thing about the property is the restaurant and staff. Absolutely superb food ( we ate here 2/3 nights) and the staff were very efficient and friendly and we managed to get by even though we spoke very little french. I researched a lot of places and also looked at a few when we were here and I still think we made the right choice. Deschaies is a great location with lovely beaches but also cute restaurants and is 20 minutes...
Read moreHabitation du Comte is the type of hotel where one could easily spend a month (or more) ... just sitting on the terrace ... writing a screenplay about a family from a bourgeois American suburb who decides that they've had enough of the rat race and move to an unpretentious Caribbean island where the weather is almost always perfect, the food is sublime, and life is a simple, pure, hedonistic pleasure. Habitation du Comte is a gem ... a true hideaway where one can open the windows, listen to the tree frogs and crowing roosters and rustling palms and imagine that all is well in the world. The food is exquisite, Anthony is a genial and generous host, and the setting will make you ponder why you should return to your quotidian existence. Nearby beaches are magnificent. Such a pity (or maybe not?) that Norwegian Airlines has discontinued nonstop NY-Guadeloupe flights. The secret is out - but now it will be just a bit harder to find. Habitation du Comte is most certainly worth all the effort it takes...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed for three nights in Eugenia's gorgeous guesthouse. The house, rooms, and garden have been lovingly restored with great attention to the history of the property, comfort, and aesthetics. The area around Ste-Rose is stunning and the setting could not be more picturesque. We enjoyed the wonderful breakfasts by the pool. Our only disappointment was that the Gault&Millau-rated restaurant hasn't re-opened since the pandemic and we weren't able to enjoy what sounds like a stellar dining experience. Note that it is important to have a car if one stays here as there are no restaurants within easy walking distance. As we were on a biking tour with Discover France, we had no easy way of procuring dinner. Eugenia was incredibly helpful in making sure we were fed, ordering and delivering dinner for us two nights and finding us a ride to Deshaies for dinner the next. The owner of Habitation du Comté takes hospitality very seriously and is truly a...
