This is quite simply an absolutely wonderful place to stay. The arrival as you drive out of the forest down the driveway to reveal a breathtaking view of the rolling hills and Pyrenean mountains is incredibly beautiful, with the pretty and very well cared-for white house perfectly situated to take in these incredible views. Isabelle, your host, could not be better. Gracious, kind, knowledgable and the perfect balance of friendly and discrete. A drink is offered on arrival, so you can sit and watch deer in the garden while having tea on the beautiful terrace. The rooms are gorgeous - spotlessly clean, crisp white bedding, and beautifully furnished in traditional style, with little touches you would normally expect in much more expensive places - bathrobes, chocolates, mineral water etc. The breakfast is perfection also - delicious homemade cakes, fresh croissant, fruit, local cheeses and ham, all beautifully presented again and the care and attention to detail that is evident throughout the establishment. You can have breakfast inside the comfortable salon or outside on the terrace with that wonderful view again. A great base for local walks (Isabelle can provide you with lots of maps, guide books etc), swimming in the pretty lake at St-Pée (great for families with young children it seemed), the gorgeous villages of the Pays Basque, and a short drive to the coast and great sandy beaches. I felt so relaxed within minutes of arriving at this place and cannot...

But what made the visit special for us was the welcome we received from the good lady who was patient enough to tolerate our French, and to tell us about the area and her family's history. ||The breakfast table was superb - to the extent that I took a photo of it - and although she doesn't do evening meals, she recommended a really good restaurant in St Pee which does interesting food at a sensible price (we ate there both nights).||Bidachuna would make an excellent base from which to explore the Pays Basque - something which we intend to do on a...
Read moreThis is a fantastic area to visit as Biarritz is a handy little airport and quick to get out of. Biarritz and St Jean de Luz have great beaches and fabulous shops and restaurants. Quite buzzing and busy so it was wonderful to drive back to the peace and quiet of Bidachuna. Such beautiful countryside. You can hear a pin drop. We slept with the window open and slept so well. If you like modern you will not like this B and B but if you like traditional, romantic french you will love it. Our room was divine with antiques and gorgeous linen. The bathroom was modern and marble. There are good restaurants nearby to eat in some very quaint villages. Breakfast was lovely. We were made very welcome indeed. We hope to...
