Our hosts converted this former warehouse into a very personal home furnished with contemporary artwork both bought and modified, and made by themselves. I found it intriguing and fascinating. There are rooms along a corridor which are identical apart from the colours, and another across an enclosed courtyard. The room where breakfast is served is huge and has access to a balcony overlooking a garden area. This room is closed in the evening but there is another large lounge area for guests to the right of the main lobby area. Although the drive is off a main road, the sign is not easy to see and the building itself is not visible from the road. It is about a mile from the town of Bayonne. The rooms have a mezzanine floor, accessed by a ladder, containing a double bed but with low headroom. The facilities are in the rooms and are separated by just a thin sliding partition/shower curtain; soap is provided. The accommodation is a single storey building so there are no stairs, and there is parking just outside. The breakfast was typically french and included homemade jams. Our hostess was charming and showed us round. It is certainly different from anywhere else I...
Read moreFrom the moment we first met the proprietor, the charming Caterine, we felt very relaxed and at home in Le Poteau Rose. A 5 min drive to the Bayonne City Centre (but not really a walk IMHO), and about a 20 minute drive to Biarritz Le Poteua Rose is a unique, cool, funky, eclectic mix of all manner or art which is located in a former sweet warehouse. We stayed in what I believe is the largest room which has huge proportions, very high ceilings, very comfortable bed and all manner of art decorating the living space. With an open roll-top bath in the living area (but no shower), you need to be on intimate terms with the person you are sharing the room with. The toilet is located in a separate closed off area within the room. Furnishings are great and imaginative - we even had a rope to climb in the room (but failed miserably in trying to climb it!). Breakfast is good with a selection of fruit, home made yoghurt and preserves.||||We spent 2 nights at Le Poteau Rose as a base to visit Biarritz. We are very glad we did. We enjoyed every moment and loved meeting Caterine and her partner Gilles in the process. We'd...
Read moreThis B&B is more like an eccentric art installation. A truly unique and relaxing experience in an oasis of calm. Malagasy Baobab made from repurposed butane tank! Amazonian masks! Beret-wearing sheep! You need to see it to believe it. I recommend you have a car to access this B&B as it is 3km away from the main area of Bayonne, but totally worth it! The hosts are extremely hospitable, friendly and helpful. We ate our breakfast every day on the terrace. The offerings included fresh bread and fruits and homemade yoghurt! No air conditioning, but even during the very hot month of July it wasn't really needed; the rooms are equipped with fans and stay cool anyway. Our room had a mini fridge which was nice. Rooms also equipped with coffee maker, kettle, wardrobe space, and other curiosities, such as a lamp with angels wings, feet and a...
