Dear Gael and Cecile, it was a pleasure to meet you both and spend a couple of days at your chateau. You are both very gracious hosts and very pleasant and accommodating. We enjoyed our breakfasts every morning and especially your efforts to take our orders every morning. The coffee and snacks available in the dinning room throughout the day was a very nice touch. You have done an amazing job of restoring the chateau over the last 3 years and we wish you success in the future.
There are however, a few things that require improvement in the rooms and the chateau itself. It would have been very helpful to know at the time of booking that some of the rooms in the chateau do not have a/c. the room we stayed in (Zeus) was lovely with furnishings and large bathroom and a very nice view to the back. However, the room got very hot during the day and sleeping comfortably at night was not possible because it was too hot. The fan you provided was not sufficient. Also, to leave the windows open, we had to have all the lights out in the room so that the bugs won't fly in. One evening our room was filled with flying moths and insects, not a good situation. I hope you can somehow figure out a way to correct that, may be screens on the windows.
There is musty smell in the chateau and in some of the guest rooms. Our room was okay but not our friend's room. The rooms need more hanging space. You had a lot of drawer space, but not much room for closet to hang cloths. A TV and a phone in the rooms would also be an improvement. Since you don't have a front desk or reception area, many times we tried to find staff member for questions or for something we needed and could not, a house phone to get a hold of a staff member would be useful.
An outdoor seating area with tables, umbrellas with some colorful flowers would add a great deal of charm since the chateau has such beautiful grounds. Not having a restaurant on the grounds is a negative.
I hope you take this review constructively and may be it is already in your future plans to do the things that are mentioned in this review. We wish you best of luck in the years to come in operating this...
Read moreStaying at Château des Grotteaux was hands-down the highlight of our trip to France. It’s more than just a bed and breakfast—it’s a truly magical place that somehow blends the charm of centuries past with the comforts and style of modern living.||The château has been beautifully renovated. Every room is impeccably designed—the beds are incredibly comfortable, and the whole place feels like something out of Architectural Digest. What’s remarkable is how it manages to preserve the history and soul of the building while feeling totally fresh and livable. You're not walking through a museum; you're living in a piece of history that still feels vibrant and relevant.||A huge part of what makes the experience so special is the couple who owns it, Gaël and Cécile. They are warm, gracious, genuine, and very chic I might add! Cécile is lovely inside and out and a very classy lady— she has expertise in textiles her touch is everywhere—in the vibrant colors, the rich textures, and the way each room feels both curated and inviting. Instead of the stuffy, heavy feel you sometimes get in historic places, the atmosphere here is light, thoughtful, stylish, full of personality.||Another unexpected highlight was the history tour Gaël gave us of the château. He has such a deep love for the place, and the way he tells its story brings it all to life—centuries of ownership, royal connections, even the scars of World War II. You get the sense that this isn’t just a home, it’s a living narrative—and Gaël is the perfect storyteller: knowledgeable, passionate, and genuinely engaging.||This says a lot— they knew every guest’s name. We felt completely at home, while also feeling completely transported. Château des Grotteaux isn’t just a place to sleep—it’s a place to savor, to learn, and to fall a little bit in love with. I can’t recommend it highly enough and am already telling all my friends...
Read moreA truly magical place – beyond perfection
We stayed at Château des Grotteaux from June 20 to 21 and it was, without exaggeration, one of the most exceptional experiences we’ve ever had in a hotel. From the moment we booked until the very last goodbye, everything was carried out with such attention to detail and genuine hospitality that it felt like perfection from beginning to end – something we had never experienced in this way before.
The entire property is enchanting: the stunning château, the beautifully maintained pool, the thoughtfully designed tennis court – everywhere you look, you feel the presence of someone who is truly passionate about hospitality and excellence. The price-performance ratio is simply outstanding for what is offered.
What impressed us most was the atmosphere of serenity and peace throughout the estate. It’s an oasis of calm and elegance. Gaël, the owner, welcomed us with warmth, ease, and true generosity. His charm and natural sense of hosting left a lasting impression on us.
As a final touch, the personalized thank-you note we received after our stay was the icing on the cake – a small gesture that perfectly reflected the care and dedication behind everything at Grotteaux.
This is a hidden gem in the heart of France – a small paradise that we will definitely return to. Once you’ve been here, you’ll want...
