Refuge du Nid d'Aigle — Hotel in Bonneville

So I've decided with my friends to try and attempt the summit of Mont Blanc and at the very last minute I change my mind as my knees had some problems.

I called Nid D'aigle camp by phone to reserve as the reservation online has ended so you need to call them and check if they have place left or not.

Lucky I am, there was plenty of space as it was the end of the season for the place and weather was extremely bad in that period which was 14th to 18th of September.

And as 4 people died while attempting the summit due to rock falling in the Grand Couloir, lots of people refrained from going to the top.

Nid D'aigle is accessed by hiking for about 30 min or maybe less depend on your fitness level from the last stop of the train.

Road could be slippery and it was slippery due to ice as it was snowing the night before.

I really didn't know how dangerous it was to get my full hiking bag as I was spending 3 nights in the place and wasn't attempting the summit. That amount of weight was excessive to be honest but luckily I managed to return safely as the ice has already been melted after 3 days.

The Camp and Dorm itself is clean, and there is only 1 toilet in the Camp Bar that usually closes at 7 or 8 PM. But camping toilet is functioning but without water. No showers of course.

I know that most people who have visited this camp only stayed for the night as most Alpinists and climbers stayed till dawn and continue their journey up to the second camp Tete Rousse by night.

Staying at the place is magical, meeting all those hikers and climbers made it worth the stay.

The mountain, the summit, the glacier and the view of the Sunset made is so magical that make me want to think on returning.

At the moment they are building the rest of Train track that will probably be reaching to the camp as I saw lots of workers and builders working...

La Refuge du Nid d'Aigle or Eagle's nest in English is one of the three mountain huts on the Normal Route to Mont Blanc summit. It is considered the starting point of the ascents as the train from La Fayet (depending on the season and if the conditions are good) gets only a few hundred meters next to it. There is a common room with a restaurant and rooms with a toilet on the floor. The capacity is only 20 beds and reservations are recommended. I didn't like it because: 1) the architecture of the building doesn't suit a mountain hut - the staircase to the upper floor and dorms is outside the building; 2) the space for equipment is in a small closed space without possibility to ventilate, dry out or get warm; 3) the hosts didn't turn the heating on a cold, rainy day with our equipment soaking wet. 2 soup + 2 sparking water + 2 apple juice for 41 euro. Soup was not worth eating and deluded. It came it a small piece of cheese and half of a small piece of bread. Local workers got a full basket of bread and a group ' 'important'visitors could have the pasta carbonara which we were told : not available! Treated as tourists that need to be robbed.
