Hostellerie La Sarrasine - Mâcon — Hotel in Bourg-en-Bresse

Just off the beaten track on a drive from Calais to Nice we stopped half way to find Hostellerie Sarrasine…. the sun shining; welcomed by the owners who could not have looked after us more... our bedroom was comfortable decorated in a quaint french style; the property is steeped in their family history which they were delighted to share. We sat in the afternoon sun with a glass of wine and nibbles provided enjoying the view with a trip to see the sheep and hens. The evening temperature had dropped a little, so our evening meal was welcomed with a roaring fire and a traditional french cooked meal with compliments to the chef and a very nice wine to accompany... we liked it so much we found the vineyard the following day! We just love stopping here which is mainly a testament to the family that run the place. They are charming. They take great pride in their locality and the produce from their area. ||||The rooms are decorated in a more old fashioned decorative style, large and comfortable. I suspect they must have underfloor heating as we have never noticed a radiator. Yet, even with the external temperature dropping well below zero, we were as snug as a bug.||||The en-suites are bathrooms with shower attachments and curtains. Toiletries are adequate and towels are good and fluffy.||||Rooms on the courtyard side are quieter.||||Great place to stop. It's about 6-7 hours...

We stayed here overnight on our annual UK-Italy trip. Dinner was DELICIOUS, particlarly the fillet steak, and gave the GF wife no trouble at all. We could have eaten table d'hote to reduce the bill, but we didn't think we would be able to eat it. As it turned out, we both ate 4 courses, but this way we got to chose exactly what we wanted.||||||The bed was comfortable. Considering how close we were to the A40 motorway, there was remarkably little noise overnight. We slept with the window shut, so YMMV.||||Breakfast was copious for me, and cooked to order for the GFW. Jolly good value,...
