Campsite Saint James Les Pins, Hautes-Alpes — Hotel in Briançon

We needed a campsite on an extremely wet evening and basically went into the first one we found, which was St James. Very friendly staff and very reasonable price (E14 for campervan and 2 of us) Amazingly even though it was mid week and low season (early June) their little restaurant was open so after parking/pitching we decided to try it. It is obviously geared towards being quite an open air place, but they also have a good marquee and canopies which we needed because of the rain; they also had space heaters on which was great! Simple menu with small number of choices...but have to say it was one of the best meals of our 3 weeks in France! perfectly cooked lamb chop and lovely home made chips, and a beautifully pan seared bit of salmon with tagliatelle. Then delicious strawberries with a tiny bit of good olive oil and fresh basil, and sort of poached apple and pear with cinnamon and creme anglaise. Whoda though at a little wooded campsite, on a wet, quiet mid week evening! ||The site itself is quite extensive and all in woods, so lots of shade when needed. River runs along the back, but lower down. Quite noisy and fast the night we were there due to heavy rain, but not any sort of problem. Good facilities with plenty of loos in 2 locations, good showers and some individual basins/washrooms with plug sockets. there was also a washing machine, games/TV room..and more washing up sinks (again in 2 locations) than you could ever need! Even had draining racks. I think the only thing that maybe slightly lets the site down is that on the initial approach and entry the first things you see are one or two quite shabby caravans, which are maybe there longterm, and they do make it look a bit run down; however very glad that we did not decide to try elsewhere on the...

We chose this campsite because it is recommended in a French motorcycling magazine and stayed in one of the chalets which are on their own site away from the main campsite. ||The chalet was comfortable enough although very tired and in need of a little tlc. There were four of us staying in a two bedroomed chalet for six and it would have been very cozy if full! ||The location was perfect with easy access to some fabulous biking roads and plenty to see on our rest days. Two small supermarkets (one with fuel) were an easy walk as is the pretty town of Guillestre itself where there are plenty of shops and restaurants.||The family running the campsite are friendly and helpful, and bread and croissants can be ordered from them for the morning. There is a bar on site, although it was closed while we were there in the second week in September.||We would probably stay again although as bikers, would hope that the front-wheel swallowing potholes on the site road will have...

Accueil déplorable par un certain François, nous pensions que c'était de l'humour, mais finalement pas du tout. Lors de notre entrée dans le chalet ( qui est situé en dehors du camping) nous avons constaté la literie vraiment sale ( poils, bêtes, tâches sur les alèses du lit et des oreillers qui ne sont pas changées), propreté très douteuse dans l'ensemble du chalet. Nous l'avons signalé sur l'inventaire d'arrivée sans avoir eu aucun retour, ni échange d'alèses pendant notre semaine. Nous avons rendu le chalet plus propre que lors de notre arrivée. Pommeau de douche complètement défectueux ( facilement détectable si le ménage était fait en allumant l'eau) , moisissures sur tous les joints de la salle de bain, radiateurs remplis de rouille. Lumière qui ne fonctionne pas. Nous avons toujours agi de bonne foi et il est regrettable que cela ait été perçu autrement. Lors de la sortie, ce monsieur François s'est présenté plus tôt que l'heure prévue et a été odieux, insultant, et de très mauvaise foi. Voulant me faire un cours de ménage ( en me demandant de prendre une éponge et du produit pour qu'il me montre comment faire, scène totalement hallucinante et humiliante) en prétendant qu'on ne savait pas le faire, lui qui est rentré avec son chien rempli de terre dans le chalet, qui sautait sur le canapé, les lits .... Je lui ai alors précisé que nous avions indiqué sur l'inventaire que l'état de propreté n'était pas correct au départ. François ne nous a ni dit au revoir, pas un mot, hormis ses nombreuses réflexions à dire que dès le début nous étions désagréables. J'étais venue en famille me détendre, je repars très déçue par ce comportement inacceptable ! Je précise que le cadre est très sympa, bien que la piscine naturelle soit une bâche pour faire office de sol, et donc un sol très très glissant. D'ailleurs un écrito sur cette espace baignade précise que " nous n'êtes ni en thalasso, ni au club med" ... Ambiance garantie !!!! Je pratique le camping depuis mon enfance, je recherche, dans ces lieux de loisirs, un cadre familial et de confiance, mais cette année en choisissant ce camping st James j'ai fait le mauvais choix ! Effectivement j'aurais dû passer 3 jours pour écrire un rapport détaillé pour préciser l'état des lieux pour l'inventaire pour ne pas subir la foudre de François.... Mais ce n'est pas ce que je recherche quand je vais dans ce genre d'endroit ! Les chalets sont veillisants, et mériteraient un peu plus d'entretien. Je retiens que le coin est vraiment parfait, mais choisissez un autre camping !!!! Et finalement, vu les commentaires sur l'attitude de cette personne, je pars rassurée car je ne sens pas la cause du problème, je pense que ce gérant n'aime tout simplement pas le contact avec des gens heureux, détendus qui arrivent gaiement...
