This is one of the strangest places we have stayed at for a long time. Although I agree with most points the previous reviewer made, I find giving it a 1-star score slightly too harsh. Our experience with the hosts was positive and they were hospitable and friendly. The grounds are very well maintained and the estate is beautiful, carefully looked after. Furnishings are of high quality and Fragonard bathroom amenities, as well as a gift of local olive oil upon departure were a nice touch. ||||Overall though, we felt like we stayed at an event venue trying to be a B&B and failing horribly at it. We stayed at several other 'chambres d'hôtes' during our trip and this one was simply bad value for money. I still do not comprehend where all the 5 star reviews come from. Was there a change of management recently? ||||We paid €280 per night for the 'St Anne' room which comes with a 'private' pool. First of all, the pool is not private and people can see right onto your garden from the main entrance and breakfast areas. At one point we had guests walk from the parking lot past us sunbathing. The pool itself was lovely though, clean and heated. This was not a major letdown, but one of many small things that started to add up. (The first actually being an e-mail I sent the day prior to arrival to ask for restaurant recommendations... to which nobody ever responded.) ||||The room doesn't have coffee or tea-making facilities, nor a fridge. You don't have access to any of these in the main house area either. (Why not?) We found this odd as it is standard these days, even in guest houses. So for those who enjoy a cup of morning coffee or glass of wine on their terrace (like us) - sorry. ||||Other things to note: ||- The room is very dark and only has a rooftop window which we were recommended we don't open because of the wasps.||- No cushions on the terrace chairs, outside light not working. ||- The walls are very thin and we could hear people next door from our bathroom||- There isn't really any storage for suitcases, nor hanging space for clothes (they did provide 2-3 hangers on a lamp though).||- There is a lot of traffic on the street right in front and we found it very noisy from our outdoor area. ||||The bottom line is all these are small things but individually they add up. Then you factor in an extremely (!) disappointing breakfast and your stay ends up being a big letdown. Reheated baguette and croissants that were too hard/burnt, with some supermarket yogurts and jams, as well as canned fruit. We were shocked. In an area with such beautiful local produce, you get given cheap and generic. And for someone like me who is not keen on sweet breakfasts, though luck. Only on the second morning a few slices of ham and cheese were added to the selection. Did they simply forget on the first day? Who knows; by then it didn't matter anymore. ||||All in all, too many negatives for a place that markets itself as a...
Read moreReading all the reviews makes me wonder if there has been a staff change since last review. ||Let me begin by saying that the place is really beautiful and has nice surroundings. The charm and condition of the property is excellent. The two rooms I saw where elegantly furnished in different styles.||||However, I can only give the place a one-star rating and I will probably not return. ||||This is the explanation for the low rating. ||||Upon arrival we got a kind of scolding for bringing two small dogs with us. Bringing two dogs had been agreed and confirmed by e-mail. When pointing out that to the host, she just said kind of “..we will allow it this time…”. No excuse what so ever. We had a bad start and it did not get better. We got a short explanation of the place and were told where and when breakfast was served. ||||On our first day we brought with us some wine to enjoy in the garden. The hosts husband noticed that and brought us a wine cooler, glasses and ice. Which was very observant and nice.||||On the following day we could not find wineglasses for our nightcap and no one to ask. Fortunately, we found some paper cups.||||Regarding breakfast. Don’t expect anything else than a very light breakfast with juice, coffee, croissants, some baguette and yoghurt from Casino. I asked for more juice and another yoghurt. It wasn’t with a smile it got a refill and it felt like I was just making trouble. On the second day I asked for a boiled egg but was just told that they do not cook. I’m glad they at least could make hot coffee…. When asking for more juice the host just ignored me walking away to fetch the ice cooler that had been left in the garden since day 1. Upon her return, I was told there where no more juice. I like to end the breakfast with a double espresso. It could have affected our party negative if I got another scolding just for asking… So I didn’t risk asking the host for some espresso. ||||I was also surprised to smell cigarette smoke in the hallway. I thought it was not allowed to smoke indoors.||||Concerning the price for the stay. I can only give it a...
Read moreMy son and I stayed here for two nights while traveling in Provence and Cote d'Azur - it was a last minute booking because we were able to book a balloon ride to see the lavender fields nearby. Well, what a booking it was! Frederic and Sabine were amazing hosts and the property was stunning. What a lovely stay we had! I am hoping that in the future I can bring my whole family here.|The property is expansive and it is available for you to walk the many paths in the forest and the field. We did a little, but sadly the oppressive heat this year cut our walk short. We did, however, take advantage of the lovely salt water pool to cool down. It was so wonderful and peaceful.|We stayed in the tower room which was so amazing! We had a lovely sitting area on the first floor, and we had our own bedrooms on floors 1 and 2 (2 and 3 for Americans;). The tower had both access to the lovely common terrace as well as it's own small terrace facing the fields. The beds were comfortable and the stay was wonderful.|In the morning, Sabine made a lovely French breakfast, complete with fresh cherries from the property. |In the afternoon, we lounged in the common area, which was a stable in the 13th century. The couches were comfortable and the decor was sophisticated and eclectic.|I am hoping we will return to the area, and no question we will stay here again. It was...
