Château de La Grèze — Hotel in Brive-la-Gaillarde

Our friends, touring in old cars with us, had booked this as an overnight stop. It was a shame to pass through so quickly, as this is somewhere to savour. First though, you have to find it! Not quite so easy.||The chateau is beautifully located. The rooms are extremely comfortable and all individual. There was a nice pool, which they allowed us to use after a hard days driving, even thought was only 30 minutes before we joined our hosts and the other guests at dinner, starting on the terrace with an aperitif and local salami etc.||And what a dinner under an umbrella in front of the entrance - this was the gourmet high point of our two weeks away. Nothing complicated, but perfect. Local white asparagus picked that day, magret BBQ'd wonderful vegetables and new season strawberries all from the area. The Chateau is a gem, refurbished to a high standard and very comfortable. Our room looked out over the open countryside and was extremely peaceful. It came complete with great linen and good bath towels. No TV if that matters to you, though. ||||We ordered dinner and were delightfully surprised to find ourselves dining with our hosts. The food was pretty much all home cooked from the excellent appetiser through to a simple fruit tart for dessert, plus a great plate of cheeses and ample wine from Cahors. Linger here - this is a quality stylish establishment. Completely renovated and continually maintained to a very high standard by welcoming owners who have the finest eye for detail. Common parts are delightful, with modernised bedrooms & bathrooms. The owners give personal attention; breakfast is delicious.
