I do not understand how manoir Hastings has a rating of 4.9 something strange going on. The location accessibility to channel ferry was good , but that was as far as it went.our room was ok. The service and food was absolutely appalling.|Our room was on the ground floor just outside the area where the owner seemed to have a meeting place for his chums. So very noisy. We requested a room change but the place was full being peak holiday season. We tootled to the bar to be greeted by a grumpy bar lady. The four other members of our family arrived and were greeted at the bar grumpily. Drinks duly arrived and firmly deposited on the table. We moved into the restaurant, and waited patiently to have our order taken, two couples coming after us were served first. We felt because we were 6 we were being over looked. My son in law had a word as the 3 year old was staring to get bored. We finally placed our order. The food then came very quickly, which explains why it was appalling, my calamari style a sete, looked nothing like what I had googled, thin short matchsticks of a Lamar I in some water with a few veg, my ‘sesame prawn wok with Asian vegetables’ was 3 overcooked prawns (2 “ long) which were cold on a sad small bowl of ratatouille that had been sitting round. Wish I had taken photos That was my 2 courses for 30 euros. The worst value meal I have ever had , this is my 2 nd time ever I have written a review.|We then realised why she was grumpy , she was showing new arrivals to their rooms, serving bar drinks, taking menu orders, and also delivering food. We sympathised with her and joked ‘where was the owner to help, had he gone off with his chums for a good meal’. We could tell from her reaction what had happened.|If you go to this place do not eat here expensive for...

The receptionist was fantastic. She was cheerful and chatty. In fact she was so brilliant she escorted visitors to their rooms, she waited tables, staffed the bar, and sadly handled complaints.
The food was a different story. A fixed menu at 30 euros for 2 courses set high expectations. The calamari starter was tasteless and had the texture of tinned calamari but it had lovely vegetables. When the main course ‘Crevettes on a bed of seasonal vegetables’ arrived it had the same lovely vegetables with THREE prawns!
I eat out regularly across France and can confidently show the owners a massive list of restaurants who provide excellent food for that price. Including many in Paris!
When I complained to the receptionist she asked me to eat the meal and said she would bring an another dish from the menu. I wanted to keep it simple and chose to wait for the alternative. It took so long we left. I think I was being punished for daring to challenge 3 prawns for 30€.
I’m still in shock one day after. Perhaps the absence of any other restaurant after 7pm, in the vicinity emboldens their...
Read moreMy wife and I spent 2 nights here and ate in the restaurant twice on our return from a family holiday in the south of France. The hotel is situated about 5 or 10 minutes from the Caen/Ouistreham car ferry and the price difference between a Saturday night crossing and a Monday morning crossing goes some way to meeting the cost. The hotel is very recently refurbished (or created?) and has differently themed bedrooms. The decor is exceptional, the rooms very large, the bed queen sized and extremely comfortable, the bathroom beautiful (with great water pressure for the shower) and the cleanliness good. The restaurant is top flight. It serves Michelin starred quality food in spacious and attractive surroundings at a price barely above that of the pavement bistros in nearby Riva Bella. Even the less expensive menus are served with petit fours and an amuse bouche. The staff are all cheerful, friendly and attentive. Can't recommend...
