We were looking for somewhere to stay for a night on the way to England and came across this place which seemed to offer us what we were seeking, a little taste of typical French rural tranquility in easy reach of the Channel.||Set just outside the edge of the small town of Ardres the farm is a haven of peace. The long main farm building has been divided into several individual rooms each with its own bathroom and door opening directly onto the gravelled area outside. At the end of the building was a breakfast room with a small terrace overlooking the lake of Ardres. The farm has extensive grounds, mostly pasture extending down to the lake itself and plenty of gravelled parking near to the main buildings.||The owner, who met us on our arrival, has converted the farm and decorated much of the farm himself preserving a simple rural French style throughout. The bed in our room was large and comfortable with a large traditional French wardrobe serving both its intended purpose and to host the television etc preserving the rustic simplicity of the room itself.||The simple breakfast of bread and jam was served in the shared breakfast area. The owner prepared pancakes on request for anyone who wanted them. The bread was very fresh and the homemade jams delicious.||Our stay, though short, fulfilled our expectations, we slept well, the breakfast was good and the owner was friendly and helpful in our search for a local restaurant for our evening meal. This is a great little place to stay for a night or two particularly to break the journey on the way to or...
Read moreFermette du Lac is a cosy B&B just outside Ardres, where we stayed for 3 nights in low season. It is just off the road to Ardres and easy to reach by car. We received a warm welcome with all the information we needed. The room is not too big, very cosy, very clean and had everything we needed. The bed was amazing, the bathroom had a great shower, soap and towels; and there was also coffee and tea. The breakfast was very much to our liking with every morning different homemade marmelade, other sweet spreads, something warm like 'pain perdu' or pancakes, coffe or tea some cheese and fresh bread. We really enjoyed those mornings with a splendid view on the lake and entertaining, interesting talks with our host. He was always prepared to give good advice on some walks or things to visit. We would gladly advise this B & B to everyone: couples, small families or people travelling alone; and we hope to return soon ourselves! Thank you Nicolas for a very...
Read moreJust fantastic What a great find this delightful B&B was with it's welcoming host. Whilst we were using this as a one night stop for the tunnel it would definitely be worthwhile making a longer stop here. It has a great location being next to the countryside but just a few minutes drive from the motorway and channel tunnel. The building has been sympathetically renovated and the room (Romance) that we had was delightful - spacious, clean and beautifully presented. We took the breakfast at €7.50 and it is great value, on our stay Nicolas cooked pancakes and there was a selection of his home made jams which were delicious, and everything was offer with great care and attention. Nicolas has been welcoming guests for 15 years and he has that rare gift of making your stay feel personal and important. Highly...
