I made a booking for THE GISĂLE apartment via booking.com with free cancellation.
Instantly I got sent messages saying I needed to send them a deposit. And then very quickly they took the full amount automatically (good job I didn't send the deposit). I cancelled the booking far in advance as our schedule changed. I waited but didn't receive a refund. I got in touch with them and they claimed they hadn't taken the money even though my bank statement clearly had their name 'L'opale' with the correct amount. I had to escalate via booking.com to which they ignored booking.com's messages. Eventually booking.com had to give me to refund.
DO NOT TRUST THEM AND DO NOT PAY DIRECTLY WITH THEM. You will never see your money again.
Note: their reply below shows a lack of accountability and trust. It is not false, Booking.com clarified that they did not have the money and that the accommodation has the money. I can even attach screenshots from booking.com đ. Booking.com waited 5 days for them to respond to their own emails and they even tried to ring them. In the end booking.com had to go through their own policy to honor the free cancellation. Booking.com will make the money up out of their next bookings. Looking at booking.com recent reviews I'm glad we didn't end up staying here. If we had booked directly they would still be telling lies that they don't have the money. AVOID...
