Résidence Clairbois — Hotel in Château-Thierry

We had no idea where to stay in Fere-enTardenois so we called into the local Information Office and asked for a suggestion of a B&B in the area; they made a suggestion and we were thrilled to bits. ||||We had a one night stay there some 12 months or more ago. I long to go back there and enjoy our time over again. Marie-Claire and François Chauvin were the perfect hosts. They opened their home and welcomed us in with open arms. We walked around their lake and made ourselves at home. They provided us and the other guests pre-dinner nibbles and the most delicious L'Apéritif. For breakfast the next morning they served fresh breads, homemade conserves, fresh juice, freshly brewed coffee and offered us all a cooked breakfast for those who were still hungry. We booked this B&B after seeing the reviews and scores. We were “lucky” to get the last room – double bed with separate bathroom and view of the garden. ||To our surprise, the bathroom and the bedroom were not separated by anything – it was one big room (put together pictures 7 and 8). But the greatest thing is: the toilet is in the closet, next to your bed! ||So a part of an old closed was converted into a toilet – and the wooden see-through doors (picture 7) cannot shield you from noises and/or smells. No intimacy or romance about that, plus I honestly think that it is not hygienic. ||We paid the whole amount owed – 75 EUR + city tax and left after 10 minutes. Just got back from a four day break.Let me start by saying our hosts Francois and Marie-Claire were just great, so much fun, even though they spoke little English and us even less French.10\10.
