Château de la Chaix — Hotel in Charolles

We decided to stay over here for the last night of our trip on our way back home.||This place is very tastefully decorated, so much eye for detail, we stayed in a very nice room : a bicyclette, great bed, nice bath room. In fact this is a very nice ‘chateau’.||||We although were less impressed by the welcome, the owner (rimma) quickly showed us to our room and went back to the kitchen to continue cooking, we understood that she was preparing the dinner for that night, table d’hotes which wasn’t proposed to us.||||So we went to a resto several kms away (nothing in the nearby village), when we came back late, there was still a table of four enjoying their meal, the owner was also around, but she barely said good night to us, she seemed very occupied with the noisy table (the rooms are not really soundproof).||||For breakfast we had to say the day before at which ‘precise hour’ we wanted to have it and were even asked to make sure to certainly arrive ‘in time’, felt a bit like school and not being on holidays.. anyway breakfast didn’t match the very detailed setting, we had the impression that it had to go quickly to make the room availabe for the guests coming down at a later time, shame.||||Check out was quick, not even ‘how was it’ or ‘how was dinner’, so in all for us a very unpersonal service in a...

My husband, myself and our Cavalier Spaniel had the most magical stay here! Originally we were looking for a Relais Chateau for our drive to the South of France but this place completely out-did our expectations! We stayed in a room called Bicyclette which was furnished with heart and soul; the curtains, the linens, the bathrooms were all done with such love, personalization, and attention to detail. The room was spotless and every possible need was accounted for - the bathroom was very well stocked with nice shampoos, body washes, cotton pads etc. Rima wasn’t around when we stayed but her daughter and friend were exceptional hostesses. I have worked in hospitality consulting for 10 years and was in awe at how these two young women managed the property. They cooked us an unforgettable meal which we enjoyed in their beautiful garden, surrounded by solitude and where our puppy could freely chase butterflies. I was travelling with my parents and aunt and, gratefully, we reserved rooms at this Chateau. Everything about the Chateau was breathtaking. I truly wished we could have stayed much longer that the 1 night we had. Rimma is amazing. What a hostess! She also prepared for us a glorious dinner with ingredients picked from her garden.
