Camping Les Ormeaux — Hotel in Cherbourg

We arrived here for a two night stop over on our way back to Cherbourg which is within a 30 mins drive.||We camped by the lake and were a little concerned at first as it all seemed a bit ramshackle. The good news is that everything was clean and working and it was delightful to pick an ideal spot down by the lake and then find we were the only people on the whole site. It was so nice to be totally alone. Madame was friendly and as relaxed as one could wish for, There were geese and hens and ponies and swings for children and acres of room to run and play in.||This is a hidden gem and my only concern about giving this review is that next time it will be full of other people!||Do not come if your group want any of the following,||WiFi, Mobile Signal, Disco music, Entertainers, Night life, Smart modern surroundings.||Do come if you want to camp on something like Pa...

Five stars because we much enjoyed the very rural and informal ,sheltered setting in valley surrounded by trees ,far from the bluff winds on the coast and the commercial campsites,our spotting of a red squirrel high up in the pine wood,great star-spotting at night,warblers around the lake,near access to the traffic free Voie Verte cycling and walking route along a former rail line ......... Good provision of simple facilities including kitchen and large living/dining room.The lodges looked nicely situated although we camped for two nights (Sept ' 22) beside the lake. A new sign at the entrance 'Camping Les Ormeaux' might well bring more deserved visitors into this Oasis,rather than the simple 'Camping...

This campsite is fantastic – a true farm experience. Cows, sheep, goats, and dogs roam freely. Plenty of meadow space (both with and without trees) for tents. No crowded motorhome park. Very simple but authentic facilities. A large common room. A kitchen everyone can use. It’s definitely something special. Sadly, you hardly ever find campsites like this anymore. If you're looking for comfort, this is the wrong place. The terrain is slightly sloped in places, the showers have very little water, and the water temperature is not consistent.
