Caravan is no frills functional, 2 bedroom is ok for a family of 4 although next time we go to France we will get 3 bedrooms.|The caravan had no curtains at most of the windows so we had to pin up sheets and towels at the windows for privacy.|The shower was distinctly bipolar and was either boiling hot or freezing cold, you got used to it. |The air conditioning did not work, we paid extra for it and although they came out to look at it it still didn’t work great in 40 degree heat!|Take a kettle! The oven and hob were great (gas) and the fridge freezer had more than enough room. There was a coffee machine, plenty crickets cutlery and pans. Take tea towels!||We loved the outdoor space and spent allot of time outside, take citronella candles and mosquito spray as they are everywhere! We all got bitten to bits! ||We enjoyed learning boules as our caravan was right next to the pétanque court.||The pool area and the pool itself was very dirty flies all over the surface and scum round the sides of the pool, by the afternoon it stank of urine, it was very very busy by late afternoon. Men need to wear speedo type shorts or trunks the lifeguards stop people and make them get out of the pool.|The slides are great!!! The sunbeds are comfy and there’s enough parasols!||The entertainment was obnoxious and loud the animation team would swarm the pool at 7pm just as your getting your last drop of sun! It went on till 11pm Monday-Friday very loudly. The animation team and entertainment was entirely in French.||We used the restaurant once on the first night but couldn’t get a table till 10pm we didn’t know we had to book in advance. The pizzas were amazing. Drinks and ice creams at the bar very expensive (captive market) and I never seen the shop open once in 2 weeks!||We used the super U in ille bouchard and the eleclerc in chinon although watch out for times they close early and Sunday only half day. ||We loved going into Tours it’s a beautiful city and only half an hour away. We also visited La Rochelle, Chinon and Saumur. ||We had a lovely relaxing holiday, our children are 11/13 so we took bikes and they would go off and explore they enjoyed the bike track. ||Check out was very confusing, there was no one at reception to check out with so we left our key, there was no information on check out. We paid extra for linen towels and and end of stay clean so goosing we get our €200 deposit back. ||Overall I don’t think we would go back to that site but we’re booking another site on the west coast...
Read moreWe have just come back from the campsite after spending a week there. We booked via Canvas Holidays as we usually go with them.
It is a small/medium sized campsite with a lot of units that are privately owned. We were allocated a 3 bed caravan in the new area- you could call it a field with little shade available. There were trees but those were too young to offer any real protection against the heat ( few days near 40 degrees) . Our caravan had a veranda with a large canopy but the whole area was just roasting in the blazing sun. Once you get your keys, you have to check the inventory list, which takes a few minutes but can be returned the next day.
Caravan itself was nice, clean, relatively new. It was reasonably well equipped but there was no KETLLE so we used a pan to boil water for tea. No grill or oven though - after checking later, I can confirm those were not listed in original inventory. The campsite shop was tiny and not particularly well stocked. It did not sell fresh milk but you can order bread delivery for the mornings- we didn't do that in the end. Pool complex- nice, kids loved it and it was the saviour during the heat. Bar- simple menu of burgers, pizzas, salads and desserts. Snack bar- limited take out option during the day as only waffles and crepes available until the evening ( paninis, pizza, chips) . No charcoal bbqs allowed. Shower blocks- I was glad I didn't stay in the tents this time Outside space by the caravan- ours was very good but some had barely anything. Kids play area- basics and small
The campsite was fine itself. I think we got used to certain things being available and certain standard so it is down to our expectations not being fully met ( although the shower block and its cleanliness was a disappointment) . We were also 1 out of 3 English families on the campsite.
The surrounding area was great- highly recommend Chinon and its castle. We swam in the river too and went canoeing. L'Ile de Bouchard had a nice 'beach' by the river ( near Super U) . Montseaur worth a visit withe the Bansk of Loire. Out of our visits to Loire Valley- I found this area most interesting- more things than just chateaus. I would come back to the area again, not to the...
Read moreWe booked our stay through Eurocamp but there was no rep on site which meant that any issues had to be dealt with by receptionists who were very helpful. We realised after we had arrived that we had omitted to book air conditioning and, which was our fault. The campsite lent us a fan which was a life saver.|Overall it’s a nice site but it is let down by the pool. You have to walk through water to get to the pool but it looks like it only gets changed once a week! It’s a bit grim. This all seems rather pointless because the pool area isn’t kept clean anyway. There are lots of weeds growing through the cracks in the flags and dust and leaves on the ground. Shade is hard to come by, there are not enough umbrellas but there are trees later in the day. A lot of the sun beds are broken.|The site is in a remote area, so you need a car. We didn’t find any restaurants nearby except for the one on the site which was actually quite good. The photos show the site next to the river, which it is, but it on a higher level and there is no access to the river from the site.|We stayed for 6 nights. Half way through we got some rather noisy neighbours. They shouted to each other all the time, the children cried most of the time, they constantly slammed car doors and the smell of cannabis was the last straw! We asked to be moved and we were, thank goodness. |The security on site was poor. Barriers were left up all day. No key codes needed. We never checked if they were put down at night time. There is only one rubbish area which is outside the main gate so it’s rather inconvenient to take your rubbish.|We really enjoyed the area as there is lots to see there but I wish we had stayed...
