Set in the middle of nowhere, rolling countryside, amongst many vineyards is this charming guesthouse. Renovated recently, it still maintains the 400 year old charm with the cobbled courtyards, laden with flowers, trees, shrubs and colour, setting the scene for a peaceful traditional stay.||||Our room looked out the front of the property, just hills and vineyards with the sun setting beautifully over the horizon. Room was simple as you would expect for the type of property, two single beds, wardrobe, small hi-fi system and the en-suite contained a bath with shower head fixed to the lower part of the bath (so it wasn't easy to shower), sink and toilet, small but adequate, and we did not spend much time there anyway.||||There was a small lounge type family room with fridge with bottles of water, a kettle and tea/coffee facilities, just adjacent to our room.||||||Christine is the co-owner and she is superb. She likes a chat and tells you proudly what they have done to the property, advising us that aperitifs are at 7.30 on the terrace. It was so nice to sit outside with this lovely view, in total tranquillity, having a drink, eating great home cooked food, with a menu you can advise on with likes/dislikes, and drink local wine throughout. All included, as was the continental breakfast, fresh croissants, bread, cereal, tea/coffee, juice, yoghurts, cheese and ham. ||||||Christine really looked after us, made sure we were happy, and it was a very family atmosphere. There were only a handful of others staying so it was never noisy, the grounds were well kept, food was great and all in all, it was a lovely, charming 3 days spent, seeing the local towns and sampling the local cognacs!||||||Recommended if you want to get a way in the heart of Cognac, and Jean-Luc the husband organises local tours and tastings, and again all perfect. Thanks for a...
Read moreGreat welcome from a very knowledgeable host, combined with a masterclass cognac session.. ||||Unfortunate not to get a room with the great views of the vineyards and unsure why this was the case as there appeared to be only one other couple staying.||||Our room was spacious and comfortable, although the stock photo and descriptions on the web site could lead to disappointment (no toiletries and no in room music/hifi) although this didn't affect our 1 night stay. Also unsure where the soft drink mini bar was located as indicated on the website.||||Website also needs to be updated as it has confusing information with regards what is included in the dinner option. For example Dinner within the website states:||||"Dinner is served every day by reservation||Adult||The set menu includes 1 aperitif (choice between liquor of cognacs, cognac, pineau...) 3 dishes, local wine, coffee."||||This is not the case. drinks are not included, and although it is mentioned on the tariff page it could missed and easily lead to disappointment and embarrassment at check out.||||The home cooked (with local ingredients) dinner in a stunning outside setting was lovely and tasty and knowledgeable conversation with Christine (who has fluent English) flowed as easy as the wine.||||Breakfast was a little disappointing during our stay and did not match reviews that we had previously read.||It included a small breakfast roll, two confitures and butter. Fromage blanc (similar to yoghurt) and banana ( fruit option), although the Broyé du Poitou made up for a lack of croissants or pain au chocolate on offer during our stay.||||In summary, we enjoyed our day/evening combined with a cognac masterclass and tasting given by Christine's very knowledgeable husband.||||We would certainly consider returning if in...
Read moreWe arrived due to a forced stop, our car’s tire broke. The owners welcomed us warmly at late afternoon. We had no lunch nor dinner that traveling day. The owner organized a cold excellent dinner for us four. Homemade food, even the children enjoyed. The local wine was very tasty and perfect married to the ham, cheese and pork sort of paté. Dessert, homemade as well, was a creamy fresh cheese with red fruits sauce. ||This place is a fantastic home with great views to the wine yards, the romantic atmosphere in the guesthouse and the friendly openness of the owners. Rooms are big, well decorated and absolutely clean. The couple running the guesthouse are very experienced in living abroad, lot of the decoration is coming from the Far East. This is part of the reason, why they speak english fluently and for non french speakers a perfect situation in France. ||By the way, he is a certified cognac tour guide and offers proper tours to the different cognac production places, this is something we couldn’t try due to the situation we were, we stood just one night. ||This lovely guesthouse offers cognac and pinau tastings as well, this is my absolute...
