Maison Tranquille - Gite — Hotel in Cognac

Wow, what a gite! We have to say this is the best gite we have been to. The saying that you get what you pay for is always so true. The gite is 5* all round, the lovely old building has been beautifully restored and all rooms are of a decent size, the two upstairs bathrooms are especially huge. Being an old building the walls are thick so the whole gite is cool even during the hot summer months but there are cooling fans in each bedroom if needed. The decor is of a very high standard and rooms massive and the downstairs lay out is thoughtful. Check-in was easy and it was great to find a useful and tasty welcome pack. The robes, slippers and toiletries left for us were an unexpected treat. The outside area is far bigger than expected, with a large heated pool and large modern decking area to lounge on with a shady pergola to eat under. We have found that many gites do not have a large dining table to accommodate a large party but both inside and outside tables are suitable. There are two garden areas, with trees to shelter under if it is too hot. Charlie and Leslie live next door and their communication from start to the end of our stay was brilliant. They gave us so much advice, regarding the area, the local drinks and travel etc they could not have been more helpful and such lovely friendly owners. The gite is just a few kilometres outside of Cognac which is a lovely small town but well placed to explore the Gironde region. All in all a perfect stay. Thank you Charlie...

This is a truly special place to stay. The accommodation is situated in a small rural village among the vineyards and near to Cognac which is full of good restaurants and bars. All the rooms are extremely generous as is the open plan kitchen/living area. It's very tastefully decorated and feels very 'homely' Everything is modern and clean and functional and the whole space really 'works' as a place for a larger group to stay. Plenty of space to spread out and tables inside and out big enough for communal eating. The outside space is fab with a large deck area, pool and garden beyond. We loved the table tennis too!! Lesley and Charlie are the perfect hosts and it's obvious the care and attention they take to make this a truly magical place to stay. Thanks from us all and we look forwards to another visit...

A wonderful property all round and the name says it all. The pool is lovely and there’s plenty of space for boules and lots of shade. Very charming interior with luxurious bedding and towels as well as robes. Hosts were very attentive and provided food and drinks for our arrival. Kitchen is well equipped and BBQ ideally located near the ample outdoor seating area. It was very hot during our stay - 41 max, but the downstairs remained cool. Tower fans in the bedrooms were useful but aircon would have been an added bonus. Altogether a very restful break in this luxury house with its...
