The garden is most beautiful and worth a detour. But the people who are running the place should not offer rooms to stay over night. Very apparently, they would prefer their guests to send the money per cheque, without bothering them with their presence.||We were a group of eleven doing a painting class at the chateau. The instructor had told the group we can roam all over the place and set up our easels wherever we want as long as we do not obstruct the garden paths. If that was an incorrect instruction, the chateau owners should have sorted it out with the painting instructor.||Instead she gave our group a complete scolding at breakfast, even calling us invaders!||Can you imagine that? Paying guests called invaders?||What did they expect, that we paint in the bathroom? The room they wanted to contain in was as dark as a dungeon, certainly not a place to paint. Somehow we were able to make arrangements for outdoor painting, but the atmosphere was poisoned for the rest of our stay.||In addition, the room we slept in at the chateau was dark, cold and moist. Our clothes were damp in the morning. The heating was turned off, and the little electric heater that we found in the closet did not make a difference.||Ah, and it took us two days to get replacement for toilet paper and an expired light bulb.||I prefer places where guests are welcome, not only...
Read moreWe came too late for a guided visit, but had time enough for the gardens (we will surely return for a guided tour).
It's a very charming little castle with a big, lovely "potager" (kitchen garden) and a beautiful big garden with some majestic trees.
Maupassant, a French writer from the 19th century was born there.
It's also a B&B and can be rented for bigger events.
Edit september 2022: Beware, dogs are not allowed on the premises (which is sadly why we'll not be trying out a night there). There's a sign on a little shed showing that, but we overlooked it because we were in a hurry and went straight for the entrance. Take care when using google maps there!! When leaving, we were sent into the bushes and the owner/housekeeper came speeding down towards us in his jeep, quite annoyed because we were on private property and we could have got stuck in the mud further ahead (we had turned on own initiative when we realised the route was getting worse, so that would not have happened, but anyway, the annoyance of the owner was very palatable and completely understandable ....stupid tourists following google...
Read moreI stayed in Chateau de Miromesnil for two nights and absolutely loved it. There is a real sense of it being a family home which makes it all the more special. Nathalie was warm and welcoming and always on hand to answer questions and make recommendations for things to do in the area. Her husband Jean-Christophe gave myself and some other guests a fascinating tour of the house and gardens. The little chapel is a must see. The parkland is beautiful and incredibly well maintained and the flower and vegetable garden out of this world! My bedroom was extremely comfortable and I slept like a log both nights. Breakfast was simple, as French breakfasts usually are, but tasty and fresh. I was in the area on a work trip but can't wait to return with my family soon as I know they will be just as enamoured by Chateau de...
