My wife and I just got back from a 10 day stay at Little Carpe Diem. Its a small campsite with just 38 or so pitches in tiny town called Pourcelles. Which is found between the fruitfarms in the Haute Provence on the eastside of the valley, between an irrigation canal and the river Durance. The town self has no noticable sights or shops. Oraison is the nearest town with shops.
One part of the campingpitches have lots of shadow underneath the pines, another part (like ours) are more open, "sunnier" places between the olivetrees. On these pitches there are pergola like structures to hang a hammock on or to create more shadow with a tarp or alike. The pitches itself are quite large, if we wanted we could place three cars and still have room for our tent. We had a nice view on the valley, with amazing sunsets and starlit skies.
Swimming is possible in the campingpool, a nearby municipal lake (near Oraison) or a small drive away in one of the beautiful streams in the Gorges. The Provence is known for lavender. The second week of July lavender is beeing harvested. So unfortunately we just missed the beautiful sight of driving through miles of neatly arranged purple rows. Luckely a few times a trailer with freshly harvested lavender past us by and filled the car with this amazing smell.
Aix-en-Provence, the center of Manosque and Estoublon were our favorite sights.
Little Carpe Diem is a peaceful campsite. But very much alive! Only for the last 4 years it is run by a devoted, hardworking and ambitious family. Melanie, Silvain and three daughters. Its also a musical family and they perform once every week at the campingbar, while (great tasting --)local beer and wine is beeing served. Very entertaining!
I spoke to Silvain and their ambition for the future is to remain a small and cozy camping but sustainable. We had...
Read moreWe are still at this beautiful little campsite. The hosts were very helpful and trusting. I arrived with a sore back and they very kindly arranged for a very good osteopath to treat me for a back injury.
The campsite is spotless, inviting and friendly. Pitches large and clean, and the perfect place to relax or explore this beautiful part of France. We stayed a week but could easily stay a further week.
The owners are always on hand day and night and nothing is a problem. They also took biosecurity very seriously during Covid pandemic. There was an incident during our stay in the pool when some child presumably deposited some waste. They took no chances and closed the pool for 24 hrs for deep cleaning. They give confidence that this beautiful place is safe.
They also have attention to detail. The toilets and shower blocks are well maintained and well finished.
Try this place but please note that it is now s rowdy campsite. It is peaceful, tranquil and make sure if you visit you keep it that way, and look after it at least until we return! Thank you to the owners for a...
Read morewe’ve just been turned away from this campsite with our 3 year old child, as it’s one hour past the ‘closing’ hour. Despite that it’s all open & there are plenty spaces free… It’s so so sad that people can’t be more open & thoughtful, and human, compassionate, we are a tired family, desperate to stop and make our dinner after last minute changes of plan… the owner could have said ok find a spot we will sort it out tomorrow. I’m sure they are very nice, as long as it’s within their ‘open’ hours. Very disappointing. And when my husband who speaks PERFECT French is replied to in English… he speaks French fluently, and English, German, Italian, Dutch… I find it so rude and unfriendly. I fear a world where rules outweigh humanity. Now my 3 year old who saw other little children playing in the park who got dressed in her best ballerina skirt to show them had to be driven off to camp by the roadside. How sad. And just so frustrating as we saw all the open spots for our camper. Extremely...
