We found Maison Basta quite by mistake - we 'found' ourselves on the road from Dax to Peyrehorade & we'd had enough of driving. Called in & there were rooms available - sadly it was Wednesday & it was the host's night off so we couldn't have dinner there. We were assigned the Orientale room (with ensuite) on the first floor: lovely garden views on either side. We had our late picnic lunch by the pool & our host provided us with a welcome beer - fabulous after a whole day of driving! Comfortable bed, excellent wifi reception in the room. Went for a walk in the evening on a rural lane to the sound of cuckoos calling. Woke up to birdsong - magic! Classic French breakfast. Take time out on your journey through France and visit Valerie and Lauren at Maison Basta, Ortheville. You will be greeted by a warm welcome. You will stay in an amazing renovated farmhouse, in the midst of stunning countryside yet close to nearby towns. Enjoy a swim in the refreshing pool, play ping pong under a huge willow tree and enjoy the beautiful gardens. The farmhouse has been designed and appointed beautifully and is so much fun to explore. Be sure to arrange an evening meal in advance. Valerie is a fabulous chef creating amazing meals from local ingredients. We enjoyed our meal around a big outdoor table enjoying company of a few other guests. Lauren and Valerie are marvellous hosts and we look forward to our next visit. True French hospitality...

We had the whole house for 2 weeks during the summer. |Fantastic for a large , multi generational family group. Both the house and gardens are huge with plenty of space to be together or separate - the photos don't show quite how spacious it really is.|Kitchen is really well equipped, the pool is huge and the pool house (with a fridge) added an extra dimension.|The owners were extremely helpful at all stages and even the one minor issue was fixed the same afternoon.|We are hoping to return and would highly recommend it (although would also like to keep the availability...
